Re: What's the word on this "front"....

Heck of a cold North wind kicked up here this afternoon, hopefully we will see some ducks with it.
Central IL on both the IL and MS river have been poor at best, between the flood levels and lack of ducks this is the worst duck season we have ever had so far.

Buddy in WI says they haven't seen a ...

Its 30 here right now and there is little to no snow on the ground. Rule of thumb we have always used was 6 inches on the ground for ducks to leave and 10 for geese(snow not corn)((canadian geese not snow geese))

Speaking of which we now have those damn things here, whose fault is that?? It's ...

Huge ice storm supposed to hit us in the next several hours, I would think the birds are heading your way as we speak.
At least I hope so for you guys, we are frozen out of 90 plus % of our holes and are down to hunting the rivers.

In all seriousness no till really doesn't have any effect unless crop is left on the ground, combines are so much better today we leave very little behind compared to 10 or even 5 years ago.
No till does not equal no harvest, turned ground exposes crop left behind much better than no till.
Matter ...

At all the elevators up here they have the daily corn price, futures and DU price posted.
If we sell the at the DU contract price we open the sieves wide open and let it hit the ground. DU then comes out measures the bushels on the ground and cuts us a check. It saves us a ton on drying fees but ...

I know how I feel when I see someone new at a ramp near my home. Gotta respect that when you go into somebody else's woods. 'Lotta folks don't 'get' that.

Don't hunt in MS, but I do hunt public ground from time to time here. It's your ground when you "get" the deed to it. Other than that if I ...

In IL WMAs receive Fed. funding but the majority is state $$ and now since we're broke a lot comes from private donations and clubs that guys establish in the name of the WMAs.
But when OOS come they buy gas, groceries, hotels etc...that all have state tax dollars tied to them that indirectly will ...

It is amazing how many people I meet from OOS up here deer hunting. I met a group from Laurel the other day who drove 800 miles to deer hunt public land.
I really don't care about OOS if they want to hunt I don't have no problem with it, I just with they would be forced to shoot a doe before the ...
