I have a question for yall that are in the lawncare/landscape business. I laid sod (tifton) on about 50% of my yard in June and at that time seeded the rest with common bermuda. I have a decent stand where I seeded and also alot of weeds as well. I would like to spray my yard this weekend with MSMA now to get to my question, is it to late in the year to spray, is the seeded portion of my yard to young to spray? I know that msma will stunt the growth of the bermuda for a short time I just don't want to kill it this late in the year. As far as mixing rate oz/gal what do you use the label is off of the container.

No, you can spray it on Bermuda i do it every day. The catch is if you spray it today be sure to water the next day. 24 hours is best but don't have to be exact. Just dont spray it on zoyzia or fescue cause it won't come back this year

I would not spray MSMA on your yard this year. The roots may not be established enough to handle the stress. You also don't want your grass going into dormancy under stress especially without a good root system established. I would pre emerge this fall with simozine or prodiamine and and add some potash for the roots.

Start out in the spring with pre emerge and a 3 way and worry about the perinnial weeds next year. The annuals such as crab grass that MSMA would kill right now will die with the frost in a couple of months anyway. Risks definately outway the benefits in your scenario.

I am in the same scenario dallas gras grew in amongest my seeded bermuda and a little on my sod. They basically told me it couldn't handle the stress plus we are about to hit a hot dry stretch. I think I am just going to be happy I got a good stand

Thanks for the input I thank I am just going to hit it with some fertlizer an worry about it in the spring. Hell I'm sick of yard work I'm ready to kill something.

Huge mistake. Your most important applications will be missed if you wait to spring. I can't stress how important the fall application and late winter/early spring pre emerge applications are if you want to have a nice yard.

I wouldn't spray the bermuda with msma until it is rooted in or it could damage it. Fertilizer and Pot Ash will help it out and help strengthen that root system. Also if you don't hit it with a fall pre em you will have henbit, p.a., etc all in your yard during the winter months. Also make sure to hit it with a couple of spring pre em to keep all those weeds you are seeing out now like the crabgrass and broadleafs.
