Any info on the fishing, lodging. It's in Mammoth Springs. Cotton picker is spring fed so no flood release problems. I give up on the LR and the dam waters in the tailwater rivers for wade fishing for 'bout 3 months... Continuos releases of 2 generators has started and ain't s'posed to stop till Greer's Ferry lake drops 20'. Wanta leave Mon. Thanks for any help.

Spring River is known for its float trips. It is redneck mardi gras. a big drunk feast...

We used to go every year. We would always camp at the Many Islands Camp Grounds. It was def. a big drunk fest and the water was always cold as hell, even in July.

I would stay at riverside. Its a little further up river, much nicer than many islands, more laid back. They have canoe, raft and tube rentals. Nice little store to get groceries and supplies if you need them.

We used to go once a year and fish and do the float trip. We'd catch some rainbows on ultralites fishing off of the rock ledges. I don't know how the fishing would be right now with all the rains this spring.

I liked Many Islands because we could stake our tents right next to the river.

Oh, if those rocks could talk.

Try Twin Oaks Camp grounds. Fishing was GREAT right out from the bank upstream of the big boulders. Fish with ultralites eggs and bacon(green glow ball piece of a night crawler then tipped with another green glow ball) You'll catch all ya want if the river is right.

I'm ready with the kitchen sink! Called up there; dude said some chunk rainbows escaped the hatchery in the flood. It's not noted for huge trout but a cat caught a 4 pounder yesterday. Read article that they're gonna crack down on the nudity lately. Won't see we 60 y.o. doin any of that.

at twin river oaks is a release point.. if your going for the fishing i wouldn't expect much.. too many drunk naked crazy fun, dam can i go with you? i would go on the spring when no one is canoeiing.. like fall or spring.. fall can be tuff when the leaves are falling into the river.. but fishing is good. most all the dam rivers are going to be generating.. my father just got back from northfolk and they generated all day as did the rest of them.. let us know how you do

Duke try the Dam #3 access. There is a channel around the point and back to the right that gets you away from the canoe traffic. I have caught some nice rainbows there. There may not be huge trout but overall the rainbows may average larger than some of the tail waters. You might even catch an occasional walleye. Good luck!

walley, smallie's and kentucky are all plentiful.. try a j-7 or j-13 in an orange/cheutreuse or firetiger.. had alot of luck with bomber lures too... for the rainbows you can't go wrong with the jointed shad rap.. 2 3/4 or 3" any bright color... some peep like the panther martins

Had a great trip; caught lotta rainbows. They wanted bright flies down deep. You can catch'em 'bout anywhere but WWWill, you're right, from the Y back to Dam 3 are some hosses! Lost a couple of pigs! Woulda done better with a sinking tip line and more brighter flies. Seems during their flood this spring their filter system in Hinkley Hatchery clogged and they released 200K trout of all sizes, about 40%, lotta breeding stock/chunks. I can outfish the "baiters" in the Little Red but they hammered me on the Spring River. Seems maybe a fly that looks like a fish food pellet might be the ticket. Caught one small brown, couple of goggle eyes, breamses, and a largemouth. Interesting place for sure and full of fish with lots of water snakes to scare the wife...

I release all I catch, mostly. I killed some 2 days for the motel man. but the "baiters" are murderers. Limit is 5 trout. 98% of the time a trout caught on bait is gut hooked, beat arond on the rocks, and had the life squeezed pulling his guts or gills out in the process. And they'll sit there and catch dozens till they get 5 bigger ones. Throwing them in the current saying..."He'll be alright." Sad deal but whata they gonna do... The snakes are sure fat!

Couple of pics of some 18"ers...Cick on the pick to make'em bigger...

Oh, brought an abbreviated fly kit and came up with the egg/critter that had 2 layers of lead wire under the body to get it down, the pink to help in the slightly milky water and for the "hatchery mentality" 8) of the trout. That and a hot pink scud creation with red tater chip bag cut to form the back with lotta lead underneath gottem too.
