I have always used all mallard decoys in my spread and I was wondering if a few pintails/woodies mixed in would make that much difference. Also, what do yall think about the motorized decoys? I use a floater mojo mallard and i believe that it spooks em sometimes. I've heard that the ducks are used to em because everyone and their brother uses them from Canada to the Gulf. thanks for the advise.

We have been using greenwing teal decoys mixed in with mallards. We put them off to one side alone. It adds a touch of realism to the spread. Sometimes if we are hunting on the edge of a field we will add some snow goose silouttes for cofidence.

I try and mimic the blocks based on the types of ducks I've been seeing..
always place the different types together same as you would when you place mallards mix the males with the females ect....

Mostly mallards but mix in about a half a dozen Gadwall dekes that I painted myself and put them in a group off to the side. I don't think that it is the type of "other" duck you use in your spread that gives it more reality it has to do with just using a few smaller sized dekes in your spread.

I don't understand why they don't sell the mojo ducks by the dozen, like normal dekes. Heck, they make 'em that fart, eat, swim, rock like my grandma and swim to specific GPS coordinates... wish they would make them with lazer-guided steel shot launchers so we wouldnt have to really hunt....
seems to me varying your decoy sizes and types would look more realistic.

When I'm hunting fields, I always like to use a dozen or two pintail decoys. Seems to be give the ducks a little mor confidence its safe.

I usually put some gadwalls in the mix too. It just looks more realistic to me. Whether it does to the ducks or not, who knows??

all mallards with a wad of teal tossed off to the side in a tight bunch.
Or just throw em all out in a big pile if you are in a hurry

I use some pintail dekes at the furthest point of my spread. I think the white breasts show up good and gine some variation to the spread. I'm thinking about adding some teal dekes to get a size difference.

What I have been doing and it works fairly well, is using widgeon and gads in our spreads. Towards the end of the season ,after every duck in the country has been staring at mostly flambeau mallard drakes, well pull out drakes of our spreads. But really depends on the spot. If you every get a chance fly over a decoy spread, youll be suprised how bad decoys can look from the air.

I've found that a dozen water keel bluebills set in their own little group beside the mallards, will pull'em in. Those things just bob and weave on the water and can be seen from a good distance. Ducks always land right next to them.
