It was the largest turnout in the seven years of the working test. 25 dogs were entered and had participants from 8 or 10 states, and as far away as Alaska. Dr. B took top honors. Since I had to leave before they ran the last series, Bill or some of the others will have to fill in on the final results.

JimAire,
Were you there? I wish I had been able to meet you and B3. I drove up Friday and headed to Wildrose and hung out for a bit then we all headed out for supper at OVPC.
I sat up on the hill directly back from the blind on the first series; not over by where everyone was sitting where you walk up for the test. From where I was sitting, the first mark across the pond I could watch the dogs swim across and then on the blind they were swimming towards me.
I didn't think the water/first series would ever end!

Hey Drakeshead, I would have like to have met you there. Sorry I didn't. I got there about 12:30 during the lunch break. I had to leave just before they started to run the last series. I did more talking to people and dog petting than I did watching them run. Had a good time. Maybe I will see you there for a Sunday afternoon training session.

The water took forever because they did it at the beginning when there was still 25 dogs. The swims were long also. First series was a water mark across pond past some high weeds up into trees. Mark signalled by a gunner at your side followed by a dry pop for the blind picked up after the mark which was about 60 yds into wind angled across 2 points and onto a heavily covered island. Lost some dogs here including my 12 YO bitch.
Second series wasa walkup in about 2-3 foot high sage grass cut in strips. Gunners about 40 yds out front on either side of line and dogs were sent across in front of walkup line to opposite gunner.
Third series was a walkup in 3 foot high CRP that was very thick and a little dog like mine could not see the mark fall and had to be lined to it through the cover and you lost dog after about 10 yds. Black dogs were easier to see. After picking the mark you had a blind about 40 yds behind the line and needed a good lining dog and had a hard time handling in the high cover.
Big cut down to I believe 8 dogs after 3rd series. 4 th series was a "driven" shoot were you walked forward with your dog and had a shotgun and about a dozen shells. You had to break clays for about half a minute and a mark was shot about 80 yds over a hill through where all the clays had been dropped.. You were in pairs and after marked was picked the honor dog had a cold honor blind down a hill off into the woods about 20 yds..
5 or 6 dogs to the 6th which was a single 100 yd mark way back into flooded timber. Dog had a clean swim through about 30 yds of clean water and entered the thick timber at an angle.
We were lucky to not make any big mistakes and Teal got the win which was bittersweet considering we had lost my other dog last week. Another nice thing was Teals littermate got third. The most impressive performance was from the 2nd place dog- he only had 3 legs and had been trained to a high level after losing a back leg to a car at 6 months of age.
Overall it was a fun day,
Bill
