Just wondering if anyone has seen many birds around the Belzoni area. Trying to decide whether or not to make a five hour drive for the weekend hunt. Starting hear some good reports farther to the North. Just curious about what folks are seeing.

Thanks for the reports. Saw a lot of divers in the ponds week before last, just never really saw many big ducks in flight, in fields or anywhere near our lease. This is my first year hunting in the area, and I bought a house in Valley Park and am kinda confused as to what's up with the ducks. Driving back and forth and not really seeing the numbers of birds you'd expect with the weather we've had. Let's hope January brings better things.

There are a few places in the Belzoni area that hold their own when it comes to big ducks. Sky Lake, Po Boy, Snake Creek, Lampkin and a couple of other places can be excellent mallard holding areas when we get the right weather. I've witnessed hundreds of pintails in funnels and thousands of mallards working fields in those areas. The last time we had the right weather was in the 2000 season.

Since Sunflower and Humphreys counties have about 70% of the catfish operations in the state, you will also see a large concentration of divers in that area.

I made a tour through the county today and did not see many ducks. I did hear about 2 limits of mallards being taken this AM by two hunters. Water conditions have greatly improved since Tuesday.

I counted 24 Canvasbacks behind my mom's house at Isola today. Tried my best to get one but they are too smart. You can say what you want about diving ducks, but any man who turns his nose up at the King is a fool. Hold a mallard and a can side-by-side and you'll see just how much duck a Canvasback is...they are huge.

Pond 11 and 18. In years past, I have seen them on pond 1 on a regular basis.

For some reason, they prefer certain ponds over others.
