Thinking about a new summit but dang they're high. Noticed Vans has a sale this weekend though. The Sunnit has been highly recommended. Last one I ised was an Ol Man and it nearly killed me so it's been quit a while since I've climbed. What's your thoughts on new stands out there? Anyone have a used one they'd like to sell?

I have always been an ole man guy. I tried the summit viper sd and it was very comfortable but I hated lugging that thing into the woods. If I were to buy another (that wasn't an ole man) it would be a lone wolf. They are amazingly light and quiet.

I will not buy anything that isn't a Summit. Worth every last penny. I too have the Viper SD.

If an ol man nearly killed you then a summit will probably put the nail in your coffin . I've owned both and liked both. The summit was more comfortable but the ol man out climbed it/better tree grip. I don't use climbing stands anymore i decided i like having the use of my legs to much .

Mine was partially operator error. It slipped as I was sliding the net back toward the tree once I was up where I wanted to be. Granted I didn't latch the front straps, but when I went to step over the net the bottom slipped and down I went. I was at about 35-40'. At about 20 I ended up with my left leg tangled and hung and ol Vaughan dangling upside down from said leg like a apple. Tha was about 6 years ago. And no I didn't have my harness on either. Back when I was a little but younger and a whole lot dumber.

The hell does anyone need to be 35-40ft in a tree for!!!!? I have summit api ol man and treewalker. Ill give you my thoughts from best to worst in a few categories.

Lightest:Treewalker, olman, api summit

Comfort: Summit, api, treewalker, ol man

Love my Summit Viper. Mine is going on 15 years old and it's banged up, I've had to patch up the seat a bit, but it's still the safest "feeling" stand I've ever used. It may not be the easiest to carry into the woods, or quietest climbing, but it's extremely safe and extremely comfortable. Those are by far the 2 most important things to me in a climber. I know it's not recommended, but I never wear my harness when I use it. You would have to try to fall out of my Viper. No climbing over the seat and all that non-sense. If you like to use the sit-stand climbing method, then you can sit on the front bar.

I'd love to get a new one now that they have improved on the original, but mine still works just fine.

Ive been guilty of the no harness thing myself.... just got one for christmas. One thing that scares me now is what happened to a guy i know (luckily he had on a harness).... he got all the way up and sat down and shortly there after the cable on his summit viper gave out and broke

You HAVE TO keep an eye on those cables. If they look worn at all, replace them!

Mancini 360...1st climbing stand that allows you to turn 360 degrees to get the shot and also can adjust cable length while climbing. Not the cheapest you can buy but easily the most versatile.

Just me, but I have always felt safer in an Ol'man vision and multi vision - the steel ones.
