Guys to say my season has been awesome is an understatement. Most on here have followed ol Buck since he was old enough to walk...been in the woods since he was two. I have taught him all I know, he soaks in everything he can related to the outdoors. Hell he has even taught ol dad a thing or three.
This year at the ripe old age of ten he really turned a corner. It was not about the numbers to him as it had been in the past, it was more about the hunts, what he sees and what goes on when he is in the woods. He hunts more on his on than with me now (says I make to much noise). He has filmed deer all year and then we discuss their age, what they have the potential to be and if I would shoot them or not. well the season is closing fast and he told me last week, dad I have not killed a buck this year. I told him not everyone kills a buck every year. i also told him that he had let more deer walk in his short life time than most men have ever seen.
the buck he took Saturday mornin was one he scouted, and got his pattern down, he could tell you on where the deer was going to be on what days and at what time. We hunted together Friday afternoon, and I told him it would be a good deer for him to take, it took a good bit of discussion,as this deer would grow to a stud if left to grow that long. The decision was made.
On Saturday we got up and he started to walk to his stand and he said, Dad wait here close to camp, I will be done before 730, he should make his way from the creek into the pines to bed before then. At 710 I heard the shot ring out and soon after my phone was ringin................I sat on the porch at camp and reflected, on my boys hunting success, and only hope I am around long enough to see him pass it all on to my grand son.
