Moral dilemma

Guys, I have a moral dilemma I want your opinion on.
My F-I-L (antique dealer) bought an estate close by the house that had a some calls in it that I bought from him. He gave me a discount, and I gave him more than he asked once I found out what they were. A 1942-ish Chick Majors Dixie and a Southland from Leland. The two below.
Image

Last week he found a mallard band in the boxes of stuff. We ran the numbers here is the data.
Species: MALLARD
Date banded: 08/08/1967
Banding Location: KINISTINO, SASKATCHEWAN, CANADA
Age: HATCHED IN 1966 OR EARLIER
Sex: MALE

I have always said that buying bands is stupid, and the sellers are stupid for doing it. In this case, I can see that the seller found "something extra" that is worth money and that's what he does. But think I should buy the band and keep them on the lanyard that is on one of the old calls that probably called in and killed that duck. And I am not going to ask him to just give it to me cause I am a purest and think it should stay with the call that killed it. He'd never make any money if I was always in the store doing crap like that.
They would of course stay in the display case together. I would NEVER put it on my lanyard. That is WAY to douchey for me.

What say you? Buy it and keep it with the call, or let it go?

How much do you think a 1967 band is worth? I have no idea, but I wouldn't think he'd get more than $30 for a duck band. I'd pay that to keep it with a call. Then again, I don't buy bands and neither do you. I also don't collect duck calls either so maybe this is just a worthless post altogether (on my part)

Carry on.

Teul I'd have to get it.... That is a piece of duck hunting heritage that you could pass down to your chikdren..... Even though you didn't kill the bird it would still make a great conversation piece. I'd have to throw in a hand carved deke with the call on an old school leather lanyard with a pic like was posted a couple weeks ago of the old timers with a strap full of ducks........ I have the image in my head but just can't explain it... Nobodys gonna bash you for COLLECTING something antique that we all are so passionate about........ What I will say is when you get it all together, put some pics up and show it off!!

if it came from a box that one of the calls was in, definitely. if it "probably" came from using one of the calls and was in a box near the calls, then still most likely would make the purchase and put on the lanyard or in a shadowbox with the calls. if it just happened to show up in a box from another part of the house that wasn't even close to the calls....ehh, then it's just another band... antique band nonetheless, but a band.

I agree wit this. I dont have much of a problem with people buying and selling bands. I think its ridiculous when they act like they shot it or put it on their lanyard.
