Wife wants to go this week-end.
Any suggestions on where to stay, other attractions & places to eat in the Mobile area would be greatly appreciated.

Stay: I reccomend The Grand.

Eat: The Original Oyster House or Felix Fish Camp. I like the view at Felix at sundown.

the grand. awesome place to relax. dont eat supper so you have room for the buffet breakfast.

Redfish charter from Dauphin Island. Go to Dixie Bar....
or take a ferry boat ride from Dauphin Island to Gulf Shores and spend the day there.

$400-$500 a night at The Grand? yall send me some of that spare money yall got. The gardens seem very interesting, but I'll have to find a La Quinta in the area.

I'm drolling to go see the rose garden. Might have to bring my pruners with me if I go to get me some cuttings.

New Hampton Inn downtown or Riverview should have good prices. As for food, Callaghans Irish Pub has a great burger and Sunday brunch. As for dinner, Id suggest Blue Gill on the causeway. Sit on deck and try the grilled oysters.

Blue Gill is next door to Oyster House. One Family owns Ruth Chris, Felixs and Blue Gill. If your wanting to take seafood home, Chris's Seafood is just down the road from Bellingrath. Also, Dauphin Island is 20 minutes from Bellingrath, walk the beaches or trails in Cadillac Park.

If you don't want to spend the $$ for The Grand, you definitely want to stay on the east side of the bay in the Daphne area. Seversl hotels right off I-10 near the BPS. Several good seafood restaurants on the old Hey 90 causeway.

Call ahead...roses wont be poppin yet, but, the azaelas should be. Some years are good, some years are GREAT. Not alot of ammenities down that way at all. Maybe try to google up a bed and breakfast or stay around Mobile or Fairhope. We could get there from Ocean Springs in about hour

Go to the link above. I haven't stayed here but my parents have. Supposed to be really nice and its in downtown mobile so it's close to everything.

stayed at battleground hotel for pete's wedding not to long ago. it was nice and in a good location, but he could probably tell you better.

If anything the azaleas will be done by now, I don't know when roses normally bloom but it's been Spring since the third week of January down here. If you've never been the U.S.S. Alabama is a cool walk through, it's on the Causeway between Mobile and Daphne. Once you're down at Bellingrath you aren't far from Dauphin Island go down to the East end and check out Fort Gaines and then grab lunch or dinner at the Common Loon or Barnacle Bill's and pick up some seafood to take home from Skinner's Seafood (their crab bisque is one of my favorites).
If the schedule works out take the ferry across to Ft. Morgan (cool fort to walk through as well) then onto Gulf Shores and check out the spring breakers there should be plenty of eye candy. There are lots of hotels along 59 to stay in plus the Tanger Outlet mall or drive back up to Fairhope and get a room at the Grand Hotel (pricey but really nice). The next day do the Fairhope/Magnolia Springs thing and then head back through Mobile. In Mobile there's a lot of great restaurants just let me know what part of town you're thinking about. Someone pointed out Callaghan's a friend of mine owns the place and it is the best burger going, trust me.
If you are looking to fish I point you in the right direction on guides as well.

always one of my wife's favorites, no matter where we are...park city, utah is where she "discovered" them...there are a few guy shops, too (did I really just say that????)

Azaleas have long bloomed here in South LA. Not sure how much the schedule varies. All 16 roses of are blooming now and have been for two weeks now.


Also, Afton Villa Gardens in St. Francisville is very nice. Not as big as the one your asking about, but still nice. You can stay at any of the bed and breakfast homes and tour the many plantations homes in St. Francisville too.
