Re: Saints in Trouble
i doubt anyone gets fired. i bet this happens in more locker rooms than one would think.
my guess is they are fined 1 million and one or multiple draft picks.

This whole thing is ridiculous...if you don't think the backside end was targeting Vicks ribs when they were broken you don't need to be watching football the saints are just catching the wrath

Re: Saints in Trouble
Also any player that had ever played football on defense knows the FIRST person you take out after an interception is the qb...you hear oski and you have a free shot at the qb

Re: Saints in Trouble
As long as the hits are legal hits, then regardless of the motivation, its is still part of the game of football. But, an illegal hit in order to take someone out for money benefits does have a stench to it. Its a fine line.
Back in the dark ages when I played high school football at Indianola Academy, our coaching staff would award "red devils" for outstanding hits ---- legal hits of the type that sent opposing players to the sideline (and beyond ---perhaps to the locker room or hospital). The red devil was in the form of a sticker for your helmet ---- the coaches would often award it on the spot by placing the red devil sticker on the helmet. We had a few players (mostly on defense) who had a propensity for collecting these little devils with some vicious, but legal hits. It wasn't a monetary bounty, but the red devils were coveted by the players nonetheless. I am certain that such a practice now would not be considered politically correct.

was still in effect thru '88, but were called "roaches" and usually got rewound and slo-mo'd a few times in the film room, especially if there was outstanding accompanying percussion picked up by the camera mic from the top of the press box ...sticker was skull n crossbonesPo Monkey Lounger wrote:As long as the hits are legal hits, then regardless of the motivation, its is still part of the game of football. Re: Saints in Trouble
Unreal. Peyton gone for year. Loomis gone for half the year. Another coach gone for 6 games. Two 2nd round picks gone. They are saying that numerous players will be suspended.
All of this takes place the year that New Orleans hosts the Super Bowl as well.
Contrast that with Bill Belichick who gets caught filming other teams practice prior to the Super Bowl and he is not suspended for one game.
I also wonder how this will work into Brees' contract negotiations as well. He is a free agent if I am not mistaken.

Re: Saints in Trouble
Got franchised so he has to play this season, no matter the contract amount.
Re: Saints in Trouble
Peyton flat out lied and said he knew nothing about it when questioned by league officials. Multiple people within the organization have said that Peyton knew about it and there are also e-mails between Peyton and others within the organization discussing the bounty program. The NFL has been investigating this for two years and Peyton allowed it to continue knowing that he was being investigated. The Saints coaching staff has pretty much given the commissioner the middle finger and dared him to do something about it.

Sean is $7,500,000 dollars lighter in the ol' checking account.
