Hunted a couple times last season. Haven't washed off the facepaint yet. Or changed my socks. A dedicated parakeeto shooter (my mom hasn't forgiven me yet despite the cumulative saving in crackers that she's accrued since '84). Been rear ended twice (who can see anything with all those stickers), but think I might actually enjoy duck hunting. Black ducks are my favorite. Their little white beaks are pretty. Hope to go a few more time this year.

KILLED MY FIRTS DUCK 12/19/1970 SUNFLOWER GREENTREE I WAS 12 YEARS OLD. THERE WERE THOUSANDS OF DUCKS IN THOSE WOODS THAT DAY. IT WAS THE OPENING DAY OF THE SECOND SPLIT.IN THOSE YEARS WE WOULD GET 40 TO 50 DAYS IN A SEASON AND THE SEASON NEVER LASTED PAST JANUARY 20. THERE WERE NO 4 WHEELERS GO DEVILS ROBO DUCKS MOSSY OAK CAMO GPS'S. THE ONE THING DUCK HUNTERS HAD IN THOSE DAYS THAT WE DONT HAVE NOW IS A HELL OF ALOT MORE DUCKS. I REMEMBER MY GRANDFATHER AND I WATCHING THOUSANDS OF DUCKS LEAVE THOSE WOODS LATE IN THE AFTERNOON GOING TO FEED IN BEAN FIELDS IN THE AREA. I REMEMBER SITTING ON THE LEVEE LOOKING OUT OVER WHAT IS NOW THE LAKE GEORGE AREA THEN BEAN AND RICE FIELDS AND SEEING 10'S OF THOUSANDS OF DUCKS FEEDING ON THE WASTE GRAIN LEFT OVER FROM THE FALL HARVEST.THAT WAS TYPICAL OF THE DELTA IN THE EARLY 70'S. BUT ALL THINGS CHANGE MOST FARMERS NOW DAYS ARE DONE BY MID OCTOBER FIELDS DISKED SUBSOILED NO WASTE GRAIN TO SPEAK OF. THERE ARE A FEW PLACES WERE PEOPLE FARM FOR DUCKS AND THEY DO ATTRACT GOOD NUMBERSOF BIRDS FROM TIME TO TIME BUT IN THOSE DAYS IT SEAMED THE WHOLE DELTA HAD DUCKS. BUT ENOUGH REMBERING THE GOOD OLD DAYS. IT STILL STIRS MY SOUL WHEN A GREENHEAD TURNS ON LOCKED WINGS WHEN HE HEARS MY CALL I HOPE I NEVER GET OVER THAT. IN 5 DAYS IT WILL BE 40 YEARS SINCE I KILLED MY FIRST GREENHEAD IT SEAMS LIKE IT WAS YESTERDAY.

First hunt when I was twelve due to my dad being a deer hunter not a duck hunter. Myself and two buddies limited Mallards and scraps, have not been able to get it out of my system yet. 15 seasons later I still love seeing wing tips to assholes as they come into a spread and prepare for that last crash landing.
Damn, i thought I had that one

Is that buddy of yours tryin to blow that call or make love to it?

I don't hunt...I bought a gun, waders, calls, a 4x4 truck, and dog so I could look cool...Double R 2 talked me into adding a few stickers to my back window right after he and gator took me hunting in Crossgates at Gulfcoasts hole last June...then I backed into my own mailbox three times in a week.... I'm hoping maybe someday to get my picture made with a duck, my wife is starting to get suspicious though...'specially when I told her I was hunting with a Hooter's girl last weekend...good thing that guy gave me a couple of mergansers and a cormorant to take home to my wife...any suggestions on how to cook 'em would be appreciated.....

I don't remember not duck hunting. I do, with absolute clairity remember my first hunt with a gun. So I'll say I started hunting at 8, in 1983.

But you have never really hunted till you hunt Crossgates with GC.
Meet at Wendys on Hwy 80 at 4:30am GC?
Ted, you coming?
Looking for 2 duck calls from Dominic Serio of Greenwood (ones for Novacaine)

This is the same scenario I remember when growing up in the late 70's. Ducks were thick, they liked timber and sloughs during the day and bean/rice fields at night, and where ever you hunted you got there by walking or by boat. I did not carry a gun until 1980 when I was 9 but had went for 2-3 seasons before that just so I could sit in the boat. Maybe Dad only carried me on hunts he knew would be quick but it was way more ducks than what we try to hunt now.

Didn't even consider duck hunting until I got invited to go to Arkansas 2002 and then the MS delta in 2003. Now, I can't imagine life without duck hunting. Just what y'all wanted to hear! Another Albainian who loves to shoot delta ducks! Y'all been good to me! :D

I started in 1967, had an OD green field jacket, rubber hip boots, 20 ga Remington 1100, Olt duck call and one dozen decoys. Man we used to put them on the water. Hunted the Weir field that cornered what used to be the Double Cypress woods back in the day..that was when we had ducks, mallard ducks, lots of green...:0)

You know it's strange you posted what you did about the Greentree. I killed my very first and one of the best deer of my life that same day down the Number 5 trail that very morning! He swam thru the decoys and I killed him with number 4's from a 16 ga. I was 12 then and dad had to get 3 gamewardens to help get that deer out! He was a monster! I've still got the mount. 8pt scored almost 160"

Minus a few years after my dad died and I had no desire to do it I went for the first time in 92. So around 17 years.
