Don't know if Sumlin's name would come up, but I would take him in a heartbeat. Dan, and his marketing caca are a joke. I wish more State fans werent blind to it.

What do you guys expect? We are the smallest dog in the pack. To be considered mid-tier would be great, because we are definitely bottom of the barrel when it comes to things like spending on coaches and facilities and the ability to draw top talent. Finishing in a good bowl game and ending up ranked top 25 is great when you have as little to go off as we do. No way a line of 3-star players is going to beat a a line of blue-chips.

On a side note, when our offense takes the field they look good. Our quarterback is quite talented. State's gone from all defense under Croom to all offense under Mullen. Good O-lines and D-lines might have won the Texas AM game.

You are the first state fan that I've heard say what most fans of other sec schools think about Dan Mullen.

And? Again, what has he done?

That's just it. I'm agreeing with you, and am glad to see a state fan that realizes it.

I thought that is what you meant. Had a group of my friends get mad yesterday when I told them that.
Glad to know somebody else has some sense too.

I don't think a coach would leave A&M to come to State right now. Lateral move

I have not been trying to take anything away from the boys with the 12th man. They are a jam up ball club, and in my opinion they will give the Tide all they can handle for four quarters. Upset? We will see.

I only mean to say if State were making strides to the top, you don't get embarrased two weeks in a row. No matter who your playing.

+1. That would be a step down.

Everybody keeps asking "What has he done?" I'm not a Mullen homer, but he did revive a program from the dead... a task a whole lot of other coaches have not accomplished at other schools. He has more interest in the program than anytime in the last ten years. He has not had that much success against his sister SEC schools of the West, but has been able to win some against East schools. So, to be considered a doormat for so many years and be able to hold your head up a little bit as a State fan is far and away better than we were with Croom or the last years of Sherrill or anytime in the early 80s or 70s.

Now, do I agree that he needs to take a long look at his position and coordinator coaches, yes I do. But when you ask what has he done then stop, step back and look at teams like Illinois, Kentucky, Vanderbilt, UCLA, etc., and be glad that we are where we are at and not where they are at cause they have been trying to revive their programs for decades and have not done it yet.

I'd like to let T. Russell and Dak play out their careers before I say "this sombitch ain't won nothin".

These are the first SEC QBs he's had to work with since he's had the job. Right now were 7-2. Let it play out a little longer. I almost see this season as year 1 in his tenure. WE ARE FINALLY FIELDING AN F'N FOOTBALL TEAM! Most coach get what 3-4 years to show what they got. Hell I'll give Mullen 7 after the schitstorm that was over Starkville before he was hired.

BTW if your gonna fire someone you have to replace them. Who in the hell is out there that would you bring in that could do better than the track we're on now???

I think Mullen has done a great job with what he has had to work with. The differnce between state and the big boys right now is in the trenches. Especially the DL. State has no play makers on the DL right now. I know they have some freshman that are supposed to be stud d lineman so lets see how they are in a year or two. Mullen is just now starting to get the recruits that he needs to take the next step and be competitive with the big boys. Out side of Saban and Urban I don't know of any coach that could have this program better than they are now considering were they where and what he has had to work with. I think in two more years I think we will have a better idea of how far he can take the state team. Along the same lines I think people are being too hard on Dooley. He stepped into a mess in Knoxville and lost a ton of players through transfers and legal issues. Kiffin left a heck of a mess up there. I think Dooley should be given two more years.

Yea I agree on Dooley as well. I think and hope he will get one more year. It appears the players are still with him. Someone stated earlier, fans are too quick nowadays to runoff a coach before he gets to do very much coaching. One to three years is just not enough time for a coach to get all his ducks in a row and implement a system most of the time. Now, when you see a program implode such as Auburn has, then I think you can see the writing on the wall.

I have one word to describe this team, SLOW. Compared to Bama and A&M we looked like we were running in wet cement. No one on this team has any quickness. O line cannot move their feet and get in position to pick up blitzers, receivers cannot get separation, linebackers constantly letting running backs run right by them, no defensive ends that can get up the field and rush the passer. I think our linebackers have been the most disappointing. They are constantly out of position. Do not know if it is coaching or if they are just too slow.

I have never liked the offensive coordinator, Koenning. That hire was a head scratcher from the start. Folks like to say that we are running the same offense that Mullen ran at Utah and Florida. No we are not! Les Koening was not the offensive coordinator at Utah and Florida. Les Koenning did not call the plays at Utah and Florida. Watch Mullen on the sidelines and see how much he has to do with the offense now. Dan needs to hire a special teams coordinator and take the offense back over. Get rid of Koenning and hire a young offensive assistant that will bring some new ideas.
