Just got off the phone with George Jeffords and he said he has read the articles and it was "Miracle of the Scatters" but i was written by old Dr.Sharpe from Greenwood in the late 50's early 60's(F&S/Outdoor life). There are other articles written by him and Peephole Hall and Bob Price about hunting and fishing at Money Hunting Club back in the day. One article was "Yalobusha Deer Drive" about Money Hunting Club. He told me that Joe Whicker had all the old articles and mags from that era and Joel Whicker may still have them. He also said W.F.Smith should have them.
I am going to run down some of the other leads he gave me.
Side note: Did you know Son Jordon still lives on Park Ave. in Gwood. I think i will stop by and pick me up a call if he still has a few.
Another call maker that i forgot about was Dominic Serio but i don't think any of his calls are still around.
I have one made by Dominic..

At some point in history, the blueline map depicting the Scatters at the Leflore County Courthouse had drawing of a Donald Duck-type character shouldering a confederate flag, as I remember. Anyone know how I can get a scanned copy of the image if not an original? How about it Novacaine?

Below is the image I pulled from the blueline map you're talking about to have our sign made several years ago. I've never seen one with the duck shouldering a flag; just the gun. Not a bad idea though !

If have searched the web but i am not having any luck and thought one of you old heads may have had it passed down to you from family members. I am in the process of running down seasoned hunters of the area like Big Henry Flautt and others that may be able to lead me in the right direction. Any help will be appreciated.
Thanks
Bill, I found someone that has the articles, "Miracle of the Scatters". He is a regular board member that usually posts on here a good bit but has been snowed under at work. He said to call him back on Friday, he has the articles at his office and will make copies and will get them to me.

I'll make sure he copies you one too.

Going to get a picture of the competition jacket like these guys wore back in the day. My wife is going to scan some of the other stuff. There is a program from the World Duck Calling Championship among the stuff.

This is quickly turning into one of the all-time greatest threads on this site...really quickly as a matter of fact. Duck hunting history and the men who formed the foundation for what we now enjoy is extremely fascinating to me. There seemed to be an element of class and decorum with duck hunting back then that is not seen in a majority of today's "duck" hunters.
I know things change and time changes everything, but today's world of gadgets, shotshows, hunting shows driven by sponsorship plugs, etc., has taken away from what duck hunting is to me on a base level; enjoying and interacting with God's creation amongst friends on cold mornings while sharing stories from years past and making stories for years to come.

Mark- i can scan and post the articles.
Deltamud77- do you want to sell the Dominic Serio?
Ramsey-I haven't seen the duck with the flag but i will check with some people in the mapping department and let you know.
For me it has been fun trying to investigate and research this old stuff. There is a ton of duck hunting history all around the delta and i am afraid that if we don't track it down and try to archive it now it will be lost forever. I look forward to reading these articles and others. If ya'll have any of this old stuff(old hunting clubs, hard core back in the day hunters, photos, duck call and gadget makers) please post for everyone else to enjoy. Maybe we can sticky a "nostalgia" forum. My $0.02.

Ducman77 has the Dominic. I second a mechanism for nostalgia threads like this and the "trophy room" thread from the waterfowling forum.

Sorry bout that- i got my delta's and my ducs mixed up
The nostalgia would be a big hit with everyone. I liked finding out info on all the old call makers from different areas. Some of the call maker info is on the duck call thread though. There are also some on this site that have extensive knowledge of some of the historic duck camps/clubs from around the Leflore Co area such as Money Hunting Club, Big Hungry, Mathews Break, Fighting Bayou,Leflore Co H&FA,etc.etc. The history of the public areas(pre government purchase) is pretty cool with a mix of notorious "characters".

With regard to the question of whether the Tippo Bayou ever ran straight through the Scatters into the Yalobusha River, the answer is yes it did. The old topo and other maps that I have located in my research of the area over the years show the connection. As Don Miller pointed out, the channel of the Tippo Bayou has silted in over the years ----so much so that some places where this waterway used to flow are now dry, farmland.
