i can solve all this debate just everyone who owns an 870 hold on to it and use it as backup or a boat paddle what ever suits ya, If you own a benneli or a bretta you group of guys need to take em to the pawn shop and get your $75 back on it and go buy a real gun (BROWING) I perfer the auto gold 3 1/2 I use mine for everything , hammer, saw(real good for making a quick blind), boat paddle , pick ax, (bustin ice) and then finally a duck killin machine, and I dont clean it but once a year, I will agree that you must use a good lube no matter what gun you use that cheep stuff is ok for shootin clays but the conditions during duck season make quality lube a must

I can give some viewpoints (opinions) but they are based on observation. My father has been a gunsmith for over 25 years and is well respected at what he does. As far as what comes in the shop for repair, Benelli leads the way with generally parts failure followed distantly by Browning (winx2 very similar). Never has a 390 been brought in the shop other than for cleaning and one to replace wood with synthetic after being exposed to saltwater. (this gun had no mechanical problems) A couple of Extremas and IIs for firing pins and action spring problems. A good word for Benelli though is that the new SPAS 12 (Nova modified for Law enforcement) is gaining popularity for its lightweight and dependability. Only a few in the shop mostly for sight upgrades and 1 refinish to Moly coat.

I own a Beretta Extrema, and my father as well. No problems with either gun so far except for a ring bulge in my dads gun. New barrel on the way. I've shot my beretta until the point it wouldnt cycle because of mud, gunked up gun powder, trash, etc because I don't clean a gun until it starts to malfunction. Grew up a pump gun man and always carry my old 870 sps as a backup. The Beretta Ext 1 has been extremely reliable, and when it wasn't, it was my fault for not cleaning it for two or three weekds in the nastiest conditions possible, pit blinds in bean and rice fields. I think I cleaned that gun 3 times this season, and hunted 56 days. Shot 3 amd 3.5" Winchesters and mostly Rem Nitro steel. Probably shot 4 cases this year through my gun. The ring bulge happened on a morning that we were shooting old mixed shells, estates, drylocks, etc. From now on, if a shell has any rust on the brass, it goes into the trash.

I've never owned a Benelli, but I like the idea of no gas and inertial operation. Anybody shoot the SBE2? Are they as good as the old H&K SBE's?

How come no one complains about their 870's having problems? Some would rather spend 1400 on a jamomatic. I suppose I just don't understand

I saw 2 of them jam last weekend. We were laughing our butts off since the "shooters" were jawing about how they would never shoot an auto, since they were prone to fail...... :D

I own two of the best duck guns ever made, a Beretta 390 and a Remmington 870. Both have limbsaver pads and synthetic stocks. Couldn't ask for two better guns!

that goes for double and single barrel guns as well...I've seen more than one expensive O/U fail in the duck blind due to springs that wouldn't perform in cold temperatures.
