Birds were there when we got there, bad sign. Mixed bag, one snow, two specks, 1 canada,3 greenheads, three teal, one bluebill and one smilin' mallard hen. Slow but hey beats the alternative.

I managed to kill my limit in 45 minutes. My Lord, they were coming in like flys! A little quiet quacks to get their attention and darn if they didn't circle once and come in wings locked and feet down! I missed the 1st 5 I shot at I was so excited! I finally got with the program and started busting them. I even got my first band today!!!!

Crap, alarm clock just went off. Hope you guys had fun over there! My son did kill a doe yesterday however and that was awesome!

Congrats Dr. B on your first band! I've been hunting 27 years and still haven't taken a banded bird! Guess that's how it goes...

Motor wouldn't crank Thur. nite, worked on it til midnight and gave up..so missed the opener...got it fixed and hit the public ramp at 4:30 Sat. morning and launched as the only boat there. Got set up and had a limit with three greenheads, two wood ducks, and two gads by 10. On the way in I had a little trouble w/ the motor again and two boats passed me going in so I settled for a secondary hole. Funny thing is these were the only boats we saw or heard until ten and then counted SEVEN boats coming out...five boats entered the WMA prior to 4:30....what's the deal? Just outlaws? What do ya'll think? Everyone in there had to come past me to get back to where they launched..I would have seen them if they had come down through there at a legal time. My son got a greenhead and prepared an outstanding hot breakfast in the boat about 8:30. Had a wonderful hunt with the ducks working well, only making one pass before a little quacking turned every group and they bellied up right in front of us. We only had one group of mallards that smelled a booger and bugged out on us. We obviously shot like crap but had a good, good time!

1 Ringneck
1 Snow

Had my brand new Franchi, did great Friday. Saturday morning on the second shot it jammed. I got the shell out then the bolt wouldn't close. Got back to camp took the gun apart got it fixed (so I thought). Went back this morning, fired 2 shots, same thing happened. Taking it back to Surplus City in the morning, which is where I bought it just over a month ago.

Wasn't as good for me as years past, mainly due to lack of water. It also didn't help that our levee blew out under one of the pipes sometime between when I checked the field Wednesday morning and Friday morning, and we were losing more water than our pump was pumping. Had to hunt places the wind wasn't right, and try to scrap it out.

Managed 17 ducks Friday:
4 mallards
4 gadwalls
1 widgeon
8 green wings

Saturday: 12 ducks, 7 geese:
2 mallards
2 gadwalls
1 widgeon
7 green wings
1 spec and 5 snows/blues

Sunday: 15 ducks, 12 geese:
9 mallards
1 pintail
5 green wings
3 specs and 9 snows/blues

Maybe next weekend when we have some water........ :?

24 teal
0 crap ducks
out about 9:45 a.m....would have been quicker, but we had to get reassociated with shooting a gun.
Great hunt....will post pics later.
