I wear a camo Buff neck gator thing and pull it up over my chin so I can still call. It's better than nothing since it covers half my face and ears. I will use burnt cork occasionally if the sun is directly in my face and I deem it necessary.

I never tried the face paint because I figured it'd get all over my glasses, thus making it impossible to hunt. I use a face net like the kind turkey hunters have for years. My glasses don't fog up, and it hides my features. And for the record, I use the same kind of net type gloves too. Can't let this fair skinned and fair haired boy flare the ducks.

This. I use the mesh turkey masks. I am like JD, I like to look up and watch the birds. To me the fun part is watching closely how they act and learning and seeing what can be done to try to get them to do what I want.

And I agree, this place seems like it is really slow nowadays. We need more duck talk.

You can look without wearing anything. Just keep in the shadows. And I can guarantee if 40 mallards get 15 yards, you can look all you want! I'm goin to the plug!

I guess I'm having a hard time figuring out what the big deal is? Besides the obvious occasional douchebag wearing it around town like previously stated.
Paint is just another tool used to fool game, some use it, some don't. I use it while bow hunting and duck hunting simply because I hate the feel of having a net on my face. Also, I use tobacco alot and like the freedom of spitting without moving my net everytime. I hate calling with gloves on, so I paint the top of my hands as well.
I don't always use it, only when it is needed for true concealment depending on the factors that day. It certainly doesn't replace common sense concealment tactics, just makes it easier sometimes. I also keep a jar of those Stridex(?) acne wipes to quickly remove it afterwards.
To each his own I guess, I used it before this site ever came about, and if I get bashed for being comfortable, so be it.
FYI a lot of douchebags wear it nowadays, but the paint doesn't make the man, a d-bag is a d-bag period. No amount of paint will conceal them from that! I mean, a lot of d-bags drive f-250s, doesn't mean every man driving a f-250 is a d-bag...

Sorry for the rant, but one more thing, I am 28, and have noticed that the paint thing isn't really the problem, it's every kid who has a tank of gas to drive to the Delta thinking he's a duck hunter. It's "cool" to be a duck hunter these days I guess. It's gone to shizt ever since the early 2000-2004 when the media popularity made it a "mainstream" past time, coupled with every swingin' dik coming to the Delta leasing up every patch of sheetwater thinking that water+delta=ducks. And I don't blame any of my farming buddies for taking their money.

i can't help but look of those big green heads, and if its real good, i look for the blind on there feet.

Me and another fellow were pm'ing about the buck brush thicket thread in the waterfowl hunting forum. I would be glad to take anyone to the big thicket here on a hunt. He said he tells folks ( I guess he doesn't live around here or hunt it anymore) that 90% of some of the delta boys would starve hunting in the thicket. I agree. And I mean that in the most respectful manner, perhaps it shouldn't be taken as literal. But with that being said, I have never seen birds act the way they do when they take up winter residence in the thicket. I can't promise folks much, but I can promise you that if you hunt the thicket without a face mask or paint and try to watch the birds, you won't kill squat.

^^^^^Very true greenheadgrimreaper see my advice on the buckbrush thread. Of all the places I have to hunt, I still love the challenge of it and end up hunting it more times than not...

If I feel the need to look up at the ducks constantly or stare into the sun I will take off my hat and look through the little hole in the back of it covering my face.... U gotta know when to look t when not to. Our group usually has someone calling the shots all other heads are down. The person with the best view of the ducks from a concealed location is usually the shot caller. Sometimes the shot caller gets caught up in the moment or like me doesn't call it At all cause I want em all in not just half

Groups who are true killa's have one shot caller. And not a bunch of eye's in the sky and everyone trying to main street on top of the other. One of the main thing's hunters today dont realize is knowing when to shoot is as important as being able to call.
