For 2.56 you cant go wrong. This one is what I have and I vouch for it being a good one, they have gone up some since we ordered last. Here is the link that started all this:

That was the one a lot of folks had problems with. Stick with the original:

Thanks for clarifying.

I honestly do think I can run a boat at night with this light. I havent held it up side by side to a million candle power spotlight, but my guess is that it would be close to comparable...
Mine took damn near a month to get here, but the guy notified me when I bought it that he was having issues with his supplier. He gave me the option of a refund, but I said to ship it whenever he got it in. As soon as his supplier got him a light it was here in about 7 days.
Ordered mine last night, I hope you are right. I know I have a 1200L light that was expensive as hell that uses those same batteries. If its near as bad as that thing I will be happy happy happy!
MY other light outshines a 1 million q beam, no problems.

I wouldn't run it in around places where there's likely to be a lot of submerged logs, but I have run my boat on plane at night using the 500 model (red and black one without the over-the-head strap) in the Pascagoula marsh while gator hunting. It worked like a charm to show channel markers, the bank, and traffic boats.

city of Ridgeland gave out some of the torches a while back as thank you gift to businesses. The one I got has either 6 or 8 of the cree LED's and that thing is wicked bright.

I charge mine after every hunt. DO NOT overcharge the batteries, or they will be screwed (cant leave them on the charger overnight). Plug them up after the hunt and when the light turns green they are good to go. I get about 45min on the full power light setting before it starts to lose power. You have to remember, that little dude is putting out a lot of light/energy.
I have heard that you can buy better batteries for it than the ones it comes with...
