this is a great law cause the ellusive whitetail that we get covered in scent lock, camo and sit motionless for hours of hunt for the possiblility is going to sit there while you get out of the vehicle, take the gun out of the case load and then find a clear shot and bam!!! Seen it happen 50-11 times

very interesting to see this topic come up....crappy wardens! haha...I have spent more than my fair share of time researching this law. Last year i was pulled over because when I came to a stop sign at a "T". I made a left turn and as the warden described it "I turned too slowly" so I was shining the field ahead of me with my headlights. Well I had my rifle stuck between the pasenger seat and the middle console where it ALWAYS stays. I have the clip of bullets in the glove box and the box of bullets in the toolbox in the back of the truck. After being told to step out of the truck and damn near strip searched for a bullet "that I know you took out of the gun", I was released with 4 tickets...hunting from a public road, after hours, with too large shot, and possession of beer in a dry county. right at $900. Its one of those cases, take it court i may win but piss the warden off and get harrassed for the next few years. So I paid it and went on about my business. so according to this particular warden - if your gun and bullets are within arms reach, your getting a ticket. i know that is NOT how the law reads but i wish a GW would chime in here and tell us what the law actually is

Didn't know that either. Seems if your vehicle is an extension of your home you should be able to ride around with it loaded if you so desire. I have always had my deer rifle in a hard case and the clip w/ bullets in there but not in the gun. Learn something new every day. Glad to hear we still have some of those "turd-cutter" type wardens out there roaming around. Wingman you need to talk to some of these guys and find out who $hit in their cornflakes. Seems the reports are rolling in this year. Are they simply fund raising this year? Seems local cops are doing the same thing around the Jxn metro too.

my encore 35 whelen has the butt stock sleeve with 5 bullets in it. It stays on my back seat. If I get a ticket for this I don't care who i piss off. Im taking it to court. I know it wont do a bit of good but it will atleast make me feel better about the situation. I'm not going to take that sleeve off after every trip to the woods. They need to go get some real criminals. Tresspassing, Headlighting, etc...
