What happened to those Dawgs, lastnight??

Now now boys, there is a lot of football to go. Let's keep the trash talking to a minimum. Regardless of your school allegience, we need to remember this is a duck hunter's forum. Furthermore i like to read some of the things many of you have to say about waterfowling. Please don't say things to change my opinion of you.

I was at the game and here's my take on things. Mississippi State has one heck of a team this year. They may not win the SEC or NCAA or the Egg Bowl, but they're good. And the USC is good, too. I'll agree, most of the game last night looked like high school football, but do ya'll remember State's opening drive? That was good football by anyone's standards. And as for the play calling, I don't think it was so bad. No, they didn't make 'em come together like they should have but all those long passes down the sidelines in to coverage...looked pretty good to me...they were on the receivers' finger tips...they lacked one molecule of air being six points. They just had a bad night. As for Madkin running, has he ever like to run? I thought they had a decent season last year without it. 7-4 ain't too bad. Besides, can anyone name a quaterback, college or professional, who does exactly the right thing at exactly the right time, 100% of the time. He just had a bad night. I have always thought their kicking game was week, but again I have ot give credit where it is due... Marlin missed two feild goals but again only by a hair...show me a 100% kicker. A little breeze from the west and the score would have been 20-16 MSU...he just had a bad night. Jackie has had the most successfull carreer at MSU and has never been wrong in what he says about the team... if he says they are good, they are good... we only get to see them once a week for a couple of months, he sees them six times a week for most of the year...if he says they're good, they're good. Nobody claims they're the best, but they're good. They just had a bad night.

As a graduate of MSU and hard-core fair-weather fan, I can't say I was too surprised by the loss to a good S.C. team. They do this every time I develop the least amount of optimism about the outcome of the season, which I know better than to do.

All I can say is that I am glad I do not bet with my heart and I don't smack talk.

State played poorly and SC played very well. That is the simple and plain reason they won and we lost. Mistakes were made on both sides of the ball.

I guess the last thing to add is that the last I looked....Mississippi is 0-1 in the SEC and so is Miss State. I'd say neither of us has any room to crow right now.

No, y'all keep ole Sparky. Maybe MSU wasn't that bad, maybe USC is just that good. I,m not bragging the outcome. What if that's the only game MSU loses this year? Y'all need to support your team, win or lose, the way USC does. 0-20 and packing the stands with 75,000 fans. USC is the only team I know that packs in to watch a losing team because they might accidently win. Looks like Lou has changed things for us. The last time we had a good team, Joe Morrison died on us. I hope Lou has a lot of life left. Y'all wouldn't believe how many USC fans thought we were gonna lose last night. I was worried, but pulling for the cocks all the way. If y'all don't win another game, please, please, pullease beat the gators.

I sure do miss GH22. Don't hang your head so low 22, it ain't always enough to have the "winingest" QB and most productive backfield! I guess Lee Corso was right on the $ with his comment about Madkin during the broadcast of the Memphis game.

My take, they got bad outcoached.

Most memorable play - was not a play at all, but WHEN A FAN SAID GO TO HELL __________ DURING THE MOMENT OF SILENCE FOR THE DEAD AND MISSING. make your own judgment.

OK, now here is my take on the game. The verdict is still out on whether or not USC is a good team, IMO, they didn't show much. We gave them 10 points on two turnovers in our own territory. They had one good drive when they brought in the option QB, which was smart on Holtz's part. As great of a defensive coach as Joe Lee Dunn, I couldn't figure out why he didn't change the defense,you have to expect the unexpected. In that drive you knew only 2 people would be running the ball, the QB and the RB. State should've keyed in on that, and they didn't. As for Wayne, he didn't play bad, Sparky needs to come up with some better plays. Why try to continue to run the ball for 4 qtr's. knowing that you can't? They should have went 4 wide the whole game and beat USC. Wayne had 19 incompletions, one interception, half the throws were catchable and the other half were not. But that "stupid" QB you keep referring too is still the 2nd winningest QB in the NCAA, so remember that. As for the fan who said "Go To Hell Ole Miss", he said it just as the minute of silence ended, so get over it. The major thing MSU needs now is a field goal kicker, they've got two more on the bench, I think it's time we see them.

I must admit that I was surprised Thursday night. I was at the game, and we gave up some big plays and just didn't make others. We flat got beat. But, unfortunately, that has been typical of a rated MSU team. We have the talent, we just needed a reality check. Hopefully, we can get down to playing football without any hype. I'm looking forward to how we will do in the swamp.
