Dove Hunts

Law states that you can have no more than 15 birds in your possession on opening day. After the opening day, the limit is 15/daily or 30/possession at any given time. We hunt in the morning and evening, and I'm just supposed to quit cuz I got my limit that morning. My understanding is if I am checked by a gamewarden I can have no more than 30 birds in my possession at a time, is this not true???

I believe that 30 in possession counts every bird you have--including the ones in the deep freeze. A daily limit of 15 birds means just that---15 birds harvested in one day. Anything over 15 is exceeding the limit. No different than an extra ducks.

Gh22:
Where do you come up with this stuff. Maybe either I just don't understand you or you have a very poor source for information. Theres no double tripping with doves...just like with ducks.

the way it works if i understand correctly is that the 30 in posession is if you are carrying someone elses birds to. fifteen are yours and fifteen are theirs

Deep freeze doesn't count, it the number of birds you have in your possession, truck, 4-wheeler, etc. that given day. The limit on ducks is 6 daily/12 possession, which means that you can have no more than 12 ducks in your possession any given day. Same way with squirrels, rabbits, etc. In arkansas they do the deep freeze check but they don't in mississippi. If you carry other people's birds they must be separated and tag by the person whom harvested them. You can call it double tipping, I call it taking advantage of the possession limit.

Nope, don't offer wildlife management, only wildlife science. Plus when you get out it's hard to find a job in the state in the wildlife and fisheries field.

Damn boy. Think about it. Argue about possession this and that all you want, whut the hell you think 'daily' means? Daily. From legal to legal. You kill a daily limit of anything in the morning, you through till the next morning. Period. You can't kill a limit in the am, then in the pm. You can't kill a limit in ark, then one in ms. Daily limit is the limit, period. Posession does include all of the aforementioned stuff. Now, where it gets tricky is, in your house, you may have the possession limit for every person that lives there, hunter or not. And its not reuqired to be tagged, in your house. Say you in a hotel, in Duckbutter Ms, hunting Whackemgood WMA, and you kill you a limit today, then tommorrow. Guess whut, you got your possesison limit. Better eat some, or mail em home if you go back the 3rd day, cause you are legally, over your limit. On top of that, one wing and head are supposed to be attached to every bird till you get home (cause you might have you a dozen blacks or cans or sumthing, and pass em off as gadwall brests). Sound far fetched??? I know a feller (several) who was in a lodge on pool 9 last year, and got hammered for cleaned ducks in the freezer, cause they MIGHT have all been cans (folks go there to shoot cans). Whuts your possession? Me and you are riding home, and I ask you to drop me off... All of a sudden you got 2 limits of ducks on you... Thats illegal, not your possession limit. Now if I had filled out a card (carry preprinted ones in my truck during the season), wif my info, and whut ducks I killed, and tagged them, you could do anything you wanted. My bro and I left our stuff in roberts truck one day on our way to Christmas dinner, our guns, our ducks, our waders, and our cell phone numbers, wif tags to say who killed whut. A gw wudda had a time trying to make a case against him. But if we'd just tossed 12 ducks in the back of his truck, no amount of talking in the world wudda got him out of it if he'd been stopped. Another intresting than about possesison limits, it aint a house if you cant get mail there... Ya better have em tagged in your duck camp. travis

Wow, you couldn't be more wrong on that one GH22. If you're sitting in the field Sunday afternoon with 15+ birds, the first 15 better be cold enough to have been killed Saturday. A daily limit is just that.
The answer to your question is "yes", you're supposed to skip the afternoon hunt if you killed your limit in the morning.

No, I kill 15 doves in the morning, and then 15 in the evening, always have, always will. We have had gamewardens to come down and hunt with his and never have told us that it was illegal, hell they did it themselves. I never have over the limit while I am in the field, but I will have full possession at the house or club.

GH22,
If what you're saying is correct then why is the opening day of dove season limits 15 daily limit and 15 possession limit. Go back to the post where JudgeJB stated this and I think you'll see it there from a man of the law. Can't get much clearer that that, the way I see it anyway.
