Most Mississippians will never give up that the blues were born here in Mississippi and traveled up highway 61 to Memphis. It is all a matter of opinion, but you are correct on Mr. Handy and his birthplace. He was born in Florence, Alabama and moved to Mississippi in the early 1900's where he first heard the Blues. He later on, as did others, traveled up 61 to Beale Avenue in Memphis, TN.

ya'll should go to the website, there are even more posters there, and you can print them for free...

I might hold a Louisiana drivers license now but Mississippi will always be home. I've defended her to every north-loving, snow-shoveling, bad-mouthing, Dad-gum yankee graduate student that dared bash MS in my hearing. IMO if you don't like it here take your sorry tail back home - we don't want you no-how. But at the same time, give us a chance and we'll treat you like family.

Yeah... yeah, this is a soap-box topic of mine as well...if'n you couldn't tell...
