I'd faint if I got 80.

I get 28.8 tops, on a good day with sunshine and low humidity. Anything other than optimum weather, and I usually can't even get a dial tone much less internet service.

I called them and asked if DSL was available for the Vance area.

They just laughed.

28.8?

Heck I'd faint if I got 28.8.....

I'm lucky if I can get 21.6.......majority of the time 19.2...........and I've got a access accelerater hooked up also........doesn't help too much...

I also called about DSL service..........how funny.........got the same reply you did.

I get knocked off the net an average of 30-40 times at night.........especially on the weekends. If I get disconnected..........the only way to get back on for a substantial amount of time.......more than a couple of minutes is to restart the computer and log in.........otherwise I'll sign back up and get knocked off within 60 sec..........over and over again. My service was worse with Bellsouth......switched to PeoplePC.......getting about as bad....

LOL! I used to be a member of this online, WWII German fighter squadron. We'd regularly play guys from Russia. Yeah, real Russians. They type and Cyrillic comes up on the screen.

Two dialup connections, one in MS and one in Moscow. Makes for a really jumpy game. I could squeeze by with my Isola connection. Vance? Out of the question.

Do you know how hard it is to shoot down a Russian in a Yak on a dial-up connection?

Hard. I mean, Yaks are normally easy to take down cause they're made of wood and all.

And don't get me started on the Polikarpov I-16.

Other than that, I'm quite the Messerschmitt pilot 8) I thought of changing my name to Günther Heflin, but it just didn't have that ring to it.

Besides, if my grandfather (drove a Sherman from Normandy to the Bulge) knew I was fighting for THEM, he'd come back to haunt me.

MY POINT IS...don't start whining with that DSL crap, RebelYelp.

Germany is gonna lose the war now, thanks to dial-up.

If you are runing Windows XP and have updated to Security pack 2 you could have some issues. There are some issues with the new update.

Rob,
Sounds like RYelp has a "messaschitz" now!   I have no router so no help there. I have the med. speed DSL from Bellsouth and we seem to do ok. Have not tested the speed, but know it is way faster than Earthlink dial up even with that accelerator(gimic in my opionion)! The spyware thing is on thing to look into. Hopefully you did not get a virus.

I have had the same response to the different carriers about getting DSL. When I tell them where I live they usually just laugh and say possibly in the next 10 years. I bit the bullet and went with Direcway($600 for equip. and 49.95 month). Satellite is very fast on downloads, usually 225 minimum, but slow with uploads. I went this route out of necessity. I currently attend college over the internet, phone lines are usually down one or two weeks a month where i'm located in the hills between satartia and bentonia.
