If people aren't drawn they can still just go and use the spots for people who don't show up right? I was always told being drawn never was anything special because there are always 20 people there at 3:30 am anyway using spots for people that don't show up and it's a $#!+. My uncle was drawn a year or two ago and he said there was 15 trucks there when he pulled up asking what spot he drew so they knew it was not free for the taking.

agree and I bet you can get a second from gaytor too
alec only wrote that because i proselytized exactly what was fixing to happen however many years ago the "great idea" came to be and he likes looking smart..sad fact is, those that are put in the highest positions of the state and federal gov't aren't looking out for me or anyone else on this board........they aren't even conservationists. I know that just pissed some folks off but you know what, "Sweet Lovin" you. and, why "Sweet Lovin" you? because "Sweet Lovin" you!

I always hunted the places that were so hard to get into that it was hardly worth taking the time sweat and effort for the chance
to shoot a couple wood ducks and on the very special days maybe kill a mallard or two. I don't even do that anymore because it's
just not worth the time, effort or cost. Some jakeleg hears you shooting and they are setting up next to you the next morning.
I quit 4 or 5 years ago. Can't afford private land either so, I'll just read about yall's hunts and look at your pics and remember the
"Good ole days" Never even considered putting in for a draw hunt for land that my tax dollars pay for. Kinda like making a car payment
and then having to put your name in a hat to get your "turn" to drive.

I hunted Howard Miller 3 times last year and have hunted it 3 times this year. I do most of my hunting on the MS River but when the water is low we are very limited. I would much rather be in the boat on the river but for us that can't or should I say aren't willing to shell over thousands of dollars to hunt a lease a few times a year Howard Miller is a good set up. There are 24 units on the place. They draw 18 for each designated day leaving 6 units open to stand by hunters. This past Sunday there were only 6 draw hunters there and 12 stand-by. We actually did stand by for the first time but drew 17 of the 18 so we were limited on picks. The two of us killed 8 ducks (1 mallard, 1 gadwall, 2 gw teal, 2 pintail and 2 hollywoods) and should have had a limit. Yes you do see some yahoos at the place but if you have any good duck hunting sense you can make it work. The 3 hunts I went on last year we killed 4 man limits each time but this year hasn't been as good. I understand people not wanting to hunt there but it is better than the sh&t show that the other public place offer. Atleast you have 40 acres to yourself.

40 acres of what? Wide ash open field. Screw that.

I have made my decision. I'm done. Congratulations to the mswf&p and nwr folks.

You have succeeded in driving another whole family, to include my two children, away from the sport that I have loved and tried to adjust to the changes. Think the dept will buy back my lifetime license? Duck hunting to most of us is was a way of life, a yearlong dedication not just a 60 day season.

I'm serious, I'm done!

LODI, while i understand your frustration and echo it, wholeheartedly....might i make a suggestion?

TAKE YOUR BUSINESS ELSEWHERE.

piss on this state, the mwfp, and the nwr that resides in it.....cause, you know what? you can't beat the machine. buy arkansas and louisiana stamps.....patron at arkie and louisiana establishments.....buy your damned shells outside this state....and, if you truly feel like being brow beaten - do it without spending the money for the "wma" permit.......not like anyone's going to check.

You know my story, but I'm headed that way this weekend anyway. I got a box and a half of shells left. Maybe we'll get to hunt some private land this weekend. Maybe not. Will I find humor in the full spooks at unnamed WMA, yes. will I giggle abit and try to steal a cup of coffee, yes. Will Wingman be there to entice me with a warm moonpie, maybe. Eitherway, it beats hanging out for a weekend in this $#!+ hole of a town y'all call Jackson. Plus I have a new guitar to break in before it ships to Raleigh NC.

Gator you are right, I already own a little cabin on a WMA in AR I hunted over there with great success the first season. It just sux donkey balls that these guys have ruined what our families and ourselves paid for and have hunted these long years. Its sad for me, and the fact that that my kids will not be able to hunt the same places I did. Another issue is when we leave the state to hunt we are creating issues for the folk that have been hunting those places all their lives. Its a vicious circle.

Yes it is a crying shame as to what has happened to these places and yet at times it is still good ... I went one time last yr with a guy that had been drawn and never set foot on the most southern south delta X.... we did manage to get a spot away from the 40 acre barren squares and had a good fun hunt...it has been a horrible yr for this place and even when there are birds it seem that its turned into a roost... leave at first light come filtering back in round 10am (FYI ya don't HAVE to go to the X at first light)....IF ya get drawn and want to join the circus and have the right equipment you can still have a good hunt when there are birds and ya get the right X ...all that being said I am getting too old to walk out in the middle and I am spoiled now... not as mad at the birds as I was ... the sad part is its better than it would be if still wide open, that is a fact.... sad part about the younger generation of "Duck Hunters" is these kids are coming into this sport because of the hype of TV and have had no rearing in the sport from an older experienced parent, uncle, cuz or anyone .. but on same hand I have seen whole families that fit that bill too..... Only thing that I sure wish I had done (Ronnie ,Jason) is we should have put that "circus show" on that we talked about few yrs ago and then again the fat lady aint sang yet.... hahaha

you tell those boys that the flash is the latest and greatest waterfowl gadget. it mimicks the glare of the sun off the water when ducks are splashing around. they'd be fools not to have their phone emitting a flash every 10 seconds or so.
