Re: NCAA Post Season Baseball 2014
....but why is baseball the only sport that doesn't follow the $$$$$$. Basketball sites are given to the highest bidder.......basically the same deal with football. Why not baseball?

Only a few hours from now before games get started. Looks like rain could affect the ULL and Oxford regionals.
Are we gonna get wet?

Re: NCAA Post Season Baseball 2014
That is ridiculous. NCAA needs to take a hard look at ticket policy at locations before awarding schools as host sites in the future. Place was not at capacity last night for the MSU game. Does anyone really believe MSU would not have filled that place up if not given the opportunity and notice in time to do so???ScottyLee wrote:rebels only get 400 tickets to ULL super regional. that blows

Be lucky you get 400. They gave MSU 200 tickets. They had one section for our fans with a few MSU fans mixed in here and there. It was packed last night. I rarely found an open seat while looking around.

MSU Seniors:
Demarcus Henderson
Alex Detz
Ben Bracewell
Derrick Armstrong
CT Bradford
Brett Pirtle
MSU Juniors:
Ross Mitchell
Lucas Laster
Wes Rea
Trevor Fitts
Brandon Woodruff
Jake Vickerson
Jacob Lindgren
Seth Heck
Matthew Britton
Jonathon Holder
We know who we are losing to graduation, but who goes in the draft. The only ones mentioned early in the year were Lindgren and Woodruff as far as possible as top draft prospects. We may very well keep the bulk of these juniors.
With Robson, Humphreys, Brown, and Hann filling in the lineup; and they all seem capable, we can look forward to a very good 2015 baseball season. Pitching will be spectacular if we can keep a couple of these guys around and I do think we will. Lindgren may be the only junior pitcher we lose.

You can expect to lose Lingo, Holder and Woodruff. Three SOLID arms to replace. We've got some pop coming in the batting order. Very few 5 9 170's in the lineup for next year. Several RS and true frosh big boys coming in.

Also with them changing the stitching of the balls for next year, it will add more pop off the bat. Something to ponder.

I doubt it'll make as much difference that they're making it out to be. Instead of balls falling 20 ft short of the fence, they'll just die at the warning track. These bats have killed the game. They're worse than wood.jtdumallard wrote:Also with them changing the stitching of the balls for next year, it will add more pop off the bat. Something to ponder.

Re: NCAA Post Season Baseball 2014
You guys watched ULL a bunch. i've looked over the stats, roster and lineups and read a few scouting reports. this is what i've noticed:
8 guys batting over .300, team BA of .318; avg 7 runs per game while giving up 3.8 or so.
Seems everyone says its a hitters park, however that makes no sense to me considering its as deep as swayze on the corners, and i think center is a tad deeper. looks like they have 1 solid pitcher who boasts an 11-1 record. Is the 7 run avg and batting averages possibly inflated a bit considering a "hitters park"?
on another note, I didn't keep up with state much this year, i know they got really hot towards the end of the year and started hitting the ball much better, but i also know they struggle to find a pitcher for the 3 deep as they never had a set weekend rotation.
seems the way to beat ULL is obviously score 3+ runs a game. but also seems that if they get behind in counts, they chase tons of bad balls (kinda like rebs). How are they against stolen bases? can you run on them? are the outfields weak arms?
so having watched them played all weekend, what are things State would try to do differently? and what's the blue print to beat these guys?

Re: NCAA Post Season Baseball 2014
One word to describe UL ................ PRESSURE !!!
They keep constant pressure on you and just wait for you to buckle. They'll do whatever it takes to win, bunt, steal, squeeze, whatever. One of the most aggressive teams I've watched in years. They bunt for hits and runs, no sacrificing. Their catcher throws a low angle to 2nd on steal attempts, and it gets there quick. The cover guy just picks it off the turf. They have team speed and their outfield has arms. State should've been dead to rights a couple of times. The park plays much smaller than the #'s on the outfield fence. They do not have a week spot in that lineup, from #1 to #9. Their fans will be into the game from 1st pitch to the last unless you jump on them early. They have 3 solid starters. Bullpen isn't too shabby either.
State had 3 chances last night to deliver the knockout punch and didn't. That ump was all the over the place last night with the strikezone. The strike 3 on Collins even had UL fans saying we got hosed on the call.
