I know what you mean Jmh600.. I had a 78' CJ 7 Golden Eagle in mid 80's to mid 90s for about ten years. i cut a rutt in Humphreys and Sunflower Co. in my days. Way before Wingman had a shield. ( thank the Lord).....kept it at my camp and it seemed like i had to replace something every weekend.. Finally sold it..had a 304 in it..it was nice.......bought a 4 wheeler...hahaha...still have it...........basically the older jeeps appeal to me because since i am not a gear head and i can buy one with motor in good shape, i can wing the rest when it occurs!?..........Hard to pluck down 15,000 on Polaris when i can slip along in $3000 clunker? I can even drive to DoubleQuick from camp and get grizzards in a jeep but not a Polaris

I had a 79 FJ40 land cruiser that I rebuilt/restored. I loved it but didn't drive it enough and sold it. If you are going the old jeep route, don't overlook them.

You'll have a lot more fun with an old land cruiser than a willys.

I have a 1957 CJ 3B that I bought when I got out of college in '95. I played with it a littel until I got a real job and bought a 4-wheeler. I gave it to my in-laws who played with it for a year and then stuck it under a tree out back. I got it back 2 months ago. I put a battery, cables, points, fule pump and gas tank in it and fired it up. Yea, it sat under a tree for over 15 years and it didn't take much to get it going. My 11 year old loves driving it around camp. That's about all it's good for. I don't see me putting the money in it to get it street legal but its a fun "side by side".

I've got a 1980 CJ5 that stays at Huntington Point. I bought it 7 or 8 years ago and spent my money on making it run, not look good. We have had a ball over the years riding the kids around. Not to mention the adult beverages that have been consumed in it over the years!!
I highly recommend the purchase of the Jeep or the Toyota for the camp!
Punt team, punt team!

Ive got two 40s model M38A1s at my hunting camp. Whenever I get time, I need to get them running. One needs a fuel tank and other needs carb reworked.

I spent 2 years and several thousand dollars on my 1980 CJ7 doing a frame off restoration/modification. It's cheaper to buy one done.

Being a jeep nazi here but M38a1 production didn't start until '52. Just thought you might want to know

that is awesome stuff. I gotta get an old Willys. I bought a used 'new' Willys. It is the limited edition 'Willys' jeep wrangler they made in 2005.
Those old Willys jeeps are great.

Well I punched the "Buy" ticket. At the end of the day, i hardly can tell the difference between a Head gasket and a Fruit Basket, restoration would have been a disaster for me. Bought a 52' M38 full restored . Drove to MN and towed it home. Owner restored jeep 24 years ago in Willys Overland plant!. everything works and original...........Anybody part with a Ramsey 50 PTO winch?
Thats the last owner taking his final drive with my son in back. funniest part of whole trip was when the seller and me were under the jeep looking at the undercarriage when my son yelled out " watch out dad, your rolling in cat crap and it's all in your hair!!" then Gary, the seller, in a Yankee accent said..." oh no...... thats just the rest of a chipmunk the cat threw up!" which is worse?

Swamp, thats a clean looking ride! One day I will have one. I've always been attracted to the old military jeeps.

Thanks! This was his baby. It is tight. He even gave me all the receipts from his restoration. My wife loves to drive it. He told me to stay in touch every 6 months and go over maintenance!
