Rattles have nothing to do with a snake's age. They get a new rattle every time they shed, which could be a half dozen times a year when they are young and growing fast, and they are also constantly breaking them off.
But yeah, this pic has been around at least a year, and while it's a big booty snake, it ain't 7 feet long unless the guy holding it is 10 feet tall.

Don't even know your own grandson...
I feel my grandad would do the same. He thinks highly of me and I have zero doubt he would be telling everybody about the snake I killed also.

Sorry, I should have worded that better. Yes, age has nothing to do with rattle length. By placing "as well" at the end of the second sentence I thought I was creating two independent clauses. I've always thought email and like typed media takes away from the English language as body language and inflection has as much to do with language as the actual wording.
But I digress. However old the pic is and whether it is as big as said is unimportant to me. I don't want to see any of those SOBs out in the woods. We are eat up with timber rattlers at my deer lease in Monroe county. They are rather shy and reclusive and just want to be left alone but dang they scare the crap out of me.

I've seen it too crow.
And these snake pictures drive me crazy. The picture uses forced perspective. Same thing all the deer hunters so for their pictures. Hold the snake out as close to the camera as you can and still get the person in frame "as a point of reference". The thing is, your point of reference is skewed because the snake is so close. There's not a good way to tell the size of that snake sine you have no valid reference.
Don't get me wrong, that's still probably a good'un. But there ain't no way that kids holding an eight foot snake out on the end of a stick like that.

Odd timelines aside, it looks like a 5' snake held up with a 6' stick. It's definitely a good sized snake, but without proper perspective on it's actual length, it's tough to get an idea of how big it really is. I like how people think 9' long rattlesnakes with 2.5" fangs exist.
