A friend had a ranger 800, traded it this yr on a new 900 and that thing is a BEAST. The 800 wasn't very impressive but the 900.... thats a bad machine

Each one has its advantages...... Do you need to haul three people or just two? Or even six?...... Are you mud riding and hot roddin or are you using it for work and hunting? Does bed space matter? Wheel to wheel width? Can it be a fullsize or would you need a more narrow utv? I have the Polaris ranger 500.... I use mine for working and hog hunting..... I have built a box for the back of it and haul 8 dogs comfortably in/on it...I can seat three passengers if needed but two is all it is suppose to take...I have yet to NEED my winch and have walked through stuff that jack-me-up hot rod biggum mud tires had to be pulled out of....... It will run 55 mph with the stock tires if that matters and sounds like a Honda 300 fourtrax.... I wouldn't get rid of this thing unless I just had to..... If I bought a new one now...... It would be the 800 midsize just bc it has a bigger motor...... Not that I need it, just because....... If you want a fullsize.... I'd get the 900 hands down...... I hear there some bad machines......... If you want a two seater play toy, get the can-am

I'm partial to a Rhino myself.

However, I got my truck stuck the other day (F150) trying to go up a hill and just didn't have enough tires. A Ranger pulled me out. I was IMPRESSED!

What are you going to do with it?

I just bought a 900XP Ranger, have owned 1000 Commander X, 800XP ranger, 660 Rhino.
I'll give you my honest opinion, on which fits you best.

What if I was using it on a farm to check fire lanes, spot spraying, build fence, etc. and also for some limited hunting use (haul equipment and people to hunting unit at local WMA)?

In your situation, I'd do either the 900 or 800 ranger. You won't be "playing' on it.
The 900 is alot quieter ride that the 800. It also takes care of the "hot seat" that you get from the 800.
If you were going to be playing, I would say the Commander with ///Airdam primary & machined 2nd clutches.
