It's not an "either or" IMO. If Rob Olson of Delta Waterfowl is a member of DU, why can't you be? Not trying to single you out..just using you as an example. Many folks feel the same way that you do. These organizations do some things very well. They also do some things not so well. I don't like the commercial aspect of DU but DW is right there on their heels...car tags, logos, etc.. It is a necessary evil (unfortunately) to gain awareness.
Basically you can have a commercial DU logo on everything but your outboard, pop up blind and underwear (well maybe not??).
-your boat in "the official" camo of DU
-your hat
-your jacket
-your waders
-your undershirt
-your thermos
-your whiskey bottle
-your decoys (pontoon perimeter)
-your dog (collar and vest)
-your shotgun
-your shotgun case
-your diddy bag
-life vests
-duck call
to name a few....(please add some if I have missed any)
Don't a small portion of the proceeds from the sale of those items go to DU? Maybe I am wrong and I'll retract my statement if so. Bottom line, you'll probably end up supporting them whether you like it or not.
I think that Wildfowler did a good bit of research on this subject about this same time last year...you know, the post season lull needing to light a fire on the site because you have just peaked in the hunting detox process time of year.
However - I would rather consume bandwidth on this subject instead of what has been going on here with religion & politics lately. Not trying to offend, just stating my opinion.
Ducks Unlimited or Delta Waterfowl?
Don't forget you can have your very own Oreck DU vacuum cleaner! That was the one that got me!
Actually, I am back in membership with DU after about a five year protest of what I considered to be innattention to the hunters of ducks. They have come back around and are paying more attention to the first conservationists, hunters. I belong to DW, as well. Their foci are different and I believe both are vital to the long term maintenance of the flight. I just wish the debate wasn't so DU v. DW; they could learn a bunch from each other.

Well this isn't exactly a licensed trademark, but I just wanted to be a smart booty.

Yes. If you look on the "DU" tag on any licensed DU item, it will state that some of the money from the sale of the item goes back to DU. If the money were not going back to DU (like all these kids that have a white plastic "DU" heads on their truck and the one we spray painted on that motor that are not licensed) I would have a problem with it.
Looking for 2 duck calls from Dominic Serio of Greenwood (ones for Novacaine)

I'm sure they do good things. I haven't seen a rise in birds since '96 although they both think there's a bunch. I wish their officers didn't make so much money from donations. Guess there isn't anything that is truly non-profit these days. Perhaps they'll turn the numbers around, I'm confident they aren't hurting anything.
