I think so...to the point in which I would love to see if there are any reasonable arguments to the contrary. Saban has won three of the last four national titles (likely going to win 4 of 5 after this season) in a day in age of scholly limitations and far more attention to the game, attention and pressure on recruiting, etc. Moreover, I heard that after last week's draft Saban has already eclipsed Bryant's number of 1st round picks...in 19 fewer seasons!
Obviously comparing individuals of different eras in an inexact science and perhaps the best way to do it is by comparing those people to their peers and success relative to the era itself. Even by doing that, Saban, IMO, is more dominant in today's game than Bryant was in his game.
What say you guys (especially Bama fans and old timers)?

Very similar to the Tiger vs. Jack comparison.
Its interesting that during Alabama's darker years 97-2006, Alabama fans lived off the past and were told that our program, or any program for that matter, would NEVER be as successful as we were under Bryant. I'm as surprised as anyone that's not the case.
I know this, one or possibly two more championships sure makes Coach Bryant's grave a little deeper.
I think the real answer lies here....CLICK

Haha. I actually cannot stand Saban as a person, but I respect him as a coach. He is better at every aspect of coaching (including cheating while at LSU...cannot say the same because I don't have connections at Bama) than every other coach in the most powerful conference in the nation.eSJay wrote:D@mn, mud, either your memory is mush or you are a closet gimp & have a man crush on the bahr or lil nicky.......
Don't get me wrong, the Bear was great...so great that they changed the game based on his recruiting. One could argue he ushered in what is now modern football.
That said, I still think Saban is better.

I recently read where every high school recruit he has signed since 2000 has left with a National Championship ring.

Re: Is Saban Better Than The Bear?
So basically the two greatest coaches in college football coached at Alabama.

I sure miss the days of talking about what a wonderful person Mike Shula was...
