Lasik eye surgery

I've got -2.25 and -2.75. They've been the same for about 5 years now. Its not alot, but I hate dealing with contacts. Its danged near impossible for me to take them out at night and then wake up and put them in in the mornings without getting a shower(probably a combination of oil on my skin and the moisture). If I try, my eyes burn for a while. I would love to be able to wake up without having to deal with them. I have been tossing the idea of lasiks around for a while. Ballpark speaking, what are the costs and who is a good doctor around here to do it?

There are 3 different procedures that were described to me yesterday and they ranged fromm 1100-1900 an eye.

Best money you can spend with your clothes on. I had it done in H'burg 8 years ago for a little over $2500 for both eyes.


The only part about it that made me nervous was when they first started and they told me "ok, you are going to dark in your left eye as we begin" and no kidding it went black as the west side of charleston square at 11pm on a Friday. But over all it took less than a minute on each eye and has been great ever since.

definitely worth it! my left eye has a pretty bad astigmatism and am having an adjustment after this season on it, but overall I can still see much better than before i had it. like don miller said, if you are into shooting sports, it is well worth it. i'm a "sweater" and my wife was tired of always fishing my glasses out of the yard where threw them because i couldn't see through the sweat on them....and i couldn't keep them from fogging over while hunting in cold weather.

I agree 100000%!!! They will tell you that your vision is going to go black and it does for about 20 seconds. I did NOT want to know what was going to take place, but you can tell what is going on. I just did NOT want to see the pictures prior to the procedure. Mine procedure took about 10 minutes per eye and that is start to finish.

About $2500 for both eyes is a pretty accurate estimate as this was about what I paid of taxes and all. I think mine was $1100 per eye.

Had mine 6 years ago......$1300 for both eyes at Lasik Institute in Atlanta.........best $$ spent.

i tried the WAVE lasiks but my eyeballs were too big and couldn't get a consistent read with the WAVE machine (at the time it was new-has been "perfected" since then). the general lasiks just cuts the flap, does a standard laser pass and you're done, and the WAVE is a custom laser pass. it reads the topography of your eye and adjusts the laser as it goes over your eye to get a better result - i was told that this also reduces the halo's and starbursts. not sure about the 3rd proceedure (as it wasn't available when i had mine done, saw the poster on the wall describing it when i went for appt before Christmas, but didn't pay any attention to it)

We've been doing LASIK in my office for the past 10 years and it is a wonderful procedure. Please do not price shop. This is your vision and your quality of life you're talking about! I would suggest having CustomVue LASIK with wavefront technology. It's a superior procedure and can correct your vision better than contacts or glasses. It's a much more precise procedure compared to standard LASIK. We also use a Femto laser to create the corneal flap. There is less dryness after surgery and a more uniform flap is created when using the laser. So at our office, we have 2 lasers being used. One to make the flap and a Visx Star 4 excimer laser for the actual correction of the blurred vision.

Take the time to research your doctor. Do your due diligence. Be educated and informed about risks ect. Although well over 95% of people are estatic with their outcome, there are risks and although rare, complications do occur.

Just to give an example of what to look forward to, this morning one of my good friends came in for his 3 month post-op visit. His vision is 20/10 with both eyes. That's twice as clear as 20/20! In about an hour from now he will be boarding a plane to Pasadena. His comment to me was how pumped he was to be able to fly without having to deal with contacts and how awesome he going to be able to see during the game. Again, it's all about quality of life and liberation from corrective lenses to see clearly.

I had lasik done over 10yrs ago, by Dr. Rawlings in Ocean Springs, MS 228-875-6950. I would recommend him to anyone, he also teaches surgery at Tulane Medical Center in New Orleans. 10 yrs and No problems.

Lasik was the best graduation gift I could have ever received. I had it done in Jackson by Dr. McCaa. I went from 20/450 to 20/20 in less than 45 sec. She had just gotten the newest machine in about three years ago, and the price was high, like $4200. I didn't want any issues that could happen with the ones that only charge about $1500.

Haik and Humble in Monroe i think have gone down to 750 an eye last i heard and they did me and a ton of people without any problem. i would trust them to do it again. i was only like -2 but it is well worth the contact/glasses thing.

Call Dr. Marascalco in Meridian, he is pretty highly regarded in the use of LASIK surgery if I remember correctly. Also pretty big hunter and not too far from Starkville (if you need another doc or second opinion or anything).

What are the costs these days. I looked into it a couple of years back and I think I was quoted $5200 for both eyes. Has it got any cheaper?

It goes for about $1,000 per eye now. If you wait a little bit daddy Obama might foot the bill.......... I mean......... I'll foot the bill.
