Are you standing on the bank when you throw the mark?

Well at some time you will probably have to force fetch the dog to eliminate that all together. FOr a quick fix you can try this. As far as getting her to carry the retrieve past the bank. If you are throwing the mark from the bank, once she has retrieved the mark and started back towards you as she get closer to the bank begin to back away from the bank and use your "here" command, whatever that may be, to draw here attention past the bank and hopefully get here to carry the retrieve further. The pace at which you back up and how you back up just depends on what reaction you get from the dog. Also to go along with that, and some people may disagree, but your voice inflection when you are calling her can really help you, whether thats getting her excited using a higher pitched voice as she returns or whatever way she responds to best. It may work, it may not, but its probably worth a try. Another thing to try would be to back up from the bank when you throw the mark extending the retrieve before it starts, and incorporating the latter into that.
