What Sex???????????????

Postby dbramlitt » Thu Mar 12, 2009 4:26 pm

I know that I am going to open a can of worms with this question, but I would like to know the opinions anyway.

As far as a HT goes which dogs are the easiest to train and work with? All the coming in and out of heat aside.

I have had males and females both, it just seems to me females just love to please you more that males, therefore making them easier to train.

Me personally I'd rather have a male but I do think that females are easier to train because they don't seem as hard headed. JMO

Why do you prefer males?

From the right litter, don't care which. Now as far as traits and disposition, female. Most can hunt in group with no problems and always want attention, but also tempermental. Oh and don't forget the "heat".

It all depends on the litter. Some females can be hard to train and some males.I like the looks of a male with and big block head.Alpha females are hard headed just like some males.I like the way most females handle in the field. And some males handle the same.Thats why i always try to keep both. :)

I enjoy males dogs more in duck hunting and coon hunting just because despite what I've always heard they seem easier to train and have got more drive, not saying females don't have drive cause I've hunted with some good ones. Like CC said males are in heat 365 days a year and that is aggrevating. But like Faithful Retrievers said as long as you buy from the right cross it doesn't matter.

If you are a single dog guy get a female. IMO they adapt to other dogs and people better, and I hear they are easier to trian. If you have a male and he is the only dog he will assume the role of Alpha male and it is a pain in the booty. The plus side to a male is if your going to do alot of heavy hard hunting, I think a big male can handle it better????

I have a male and a female, I will be getting another male in the near future. My male is my hunting buddy, the female is a pet but she is for running test. I don't have the bond with her that I have with my male.... Don't know why but that is the way it is. I have had about 4 other females since I got Nash and I never was able to develop a bond similar to the way me and Nash have bonded. I just think females are hard to get along with..... They might only go into heat twice a year but they have hormone issues year round.....

Im all for a female. Mine is one of Doc hormone issues hehheheh just kidding but she can run with the big boys all day long and still be there when they quit. As for heat cycles she is going on 5 and only been heat 3 times. Just pick what you like and go with it.

Yep she was the first female that I had, I truely believe the reason me and her never hit it off was because I was just babysitting her until Mrs Stumpjumper could claim her for her own....

I have had several dogs come thru this house hold until I was able to find them a permanate home. Abby is what I consider the best, both as a pet and the home she went too...
