Just noticed my 4yr old has some fecal worms and need some help. The worms are solid white and about 1/2 cm in length. They almost appear flat with a blocky/square head. There was about 5 of them that I could see. Any of you guys know what kind of worm this is and what is used to treat it. Also both labs stay in my back yard in a pretty small fenced in area, so how should I prevent my other dog from getting it and should I spray my back yard!!!
I had just gotten a full check up on each dog at the vets office 3 wks ago (cost 300 bucks) and the vet said they were both healthy and no worms seen!!!!!!

Yea, they look like little grains of rice and squiggle when they move. My dogs get front line once a month and get a bath once a wk so I feel I am doing plenty to get rid of fleas/ticks. I also spray my yard for fleas and ticks but just curious if there is something I need to spray for these worms???

Maybe this will help you understand tapeworms a little better.

Are you ready???
We live in North Pole, Alaska
No, it's not the North Pole as in the top of the world. We live about 20 miles from Fairbanks which is in the area known as "Interior" Alaska.
No real mountainous areas right here. We are in a huge river valley.
Warm temps in the summer(actually HOT right now) but very cold winters.
You don't have to drive very far to get to some very scenic mountain areas.

There is also another type of tapeworm that is common that an animal gets from eating an infected rodent or the remains. Like cats getting them from eating rats or dogs eatting on dead things. The meds that you get from your vet should get both kinds. Tapeworms can not be seen on a fecal float (worm test preformed by the vet) the only way to know your animal has them is to see the "rice".
Also be sure that you are bathing the dog with a type of shampoo that does not remove your frontline. Some shampoos will wash away the skin oils and that is where the frontline is active so you will loose your effectiveness.
