PARTNER WANTS TO BRING DOG

Everyother duck hunting buddy I have has a "duck dog". By this I mean a yard dog that can fetch a stick, maybe the dog has been on 1 or 2 actual hunts. They always seem to want to bring their dog. Two dogs in one blind never seem to work especially if one has no manners. What Im getting to is that if I took my buddies'dogs I would hardly never get to take mine, which I have spent alot of time trainging and (bragging) is a good dog. Also they end up hollerin at the dog or the dog just runs off.

If they wanted to take their dogs, find your own damn holes, dont ruin the hunts in mine.

Anyone else have this problem?

Well don't tell us, tell them. Or better yet, if they insist on bringing their dogs, then you should insist on them bringing a leash so that the dog will be kept under complete controll until YOU call the shots.

Sounds like the answer too me too Wildfowler. Me and the guy I usally hunt with both have pups this year. He asked me if I wanted too take mine. I told him the first couple of hunts would be with me alone that way I wouldnt have too hear him talk about it for the next 20 years He didnt take his new pup either i guess he didnt want too hear me either , with the youngins and all we had we opted for his older dog. Worked out really well!!!!!!!

Have had the same problems and more alike....

A dog shouldn't be given so much extra environment (your honey hole) when they want to "see how Fido can do". Your duck hole is no place for evaluating if he will even retrieve, or not. Adding a lot of timber, rice, beans, etc., will only reinterate the dog's need to be trained. Give the pup a fair shot at performing well by teaching him at home. Then, once he goes out to the blind, they can "see how he will do". Carrying out a dog to the blind, that's only been running in circles in the yard all its life, just to see "what-if" will net you a soar butt once your buds get thru chewing on it.

The one I hate is, "since you ain't hunting tomorrow let me take your dog". To which I gots ta reply, "you been drinking again?".

That's all I need is to have some dumbass blow a dogs ear off in between retrieves.

The answer is easy - your hunt, your boat, your lease......your dog unless you have hunted over your buddy's dog before and they can handle the dog. It's an unwritten rule.... they shouldn't even ask. You should feel like a jerk for telling them that.

Remember this quote from our hunt in the dust Wildfowler...."someone NEEDS to control their dog...." That was right before I almost dropped that speckled belly on Lefty. (BTW it wasn't Wildfowler's dog).

Ya, I was laughing my booty off when I heard him say it. I knew better than to bring my dog on that hunt.
