Serious #s of ducks on our place. Geese too. Lots of ducks dryland feeding in fields that have not been tilled. And their colors are awesome.
Are we gonna get wet?
Re: Birds are here!!!!
We even have a lot of them down here.
So many ducks, so little time....

Re: Birds are here!!!!
I went from Winona to Dahomey to Greenville and back to Winona over the weekend and didn't see much. Only 2 big flocks of geese, maybe 1000 ducks on the refuge, and some spoons on fishponds. That was it.

Re: Birds are here!!!!
I usually agree with this because it is a common thing every February....but in this case the ducks are on drylandhntrpat1 wrote:night be because every board has been pulled for three weeks on flooded fields

Re: Birds are here!!!!
I saw a huge flock dryland feeding last weekend, which was a first for me in Mississippi.

Wish we could have gotten this weather around the first week of January; once again, Anatidae was spot on with his weather insights.

Re: Birds are here!!!!
Mississippi flyway federal frame work allows us to hunt until the last Sunday in January. Always seems to early for us in the deep South! Believe our season is cut short due to supposed pairing up of the birds but they don't mate for 3 more months....don't believe any of the birds would have trouble finding a new mate if they extended our season into mid Feb!! Hell most of the birds gang rape the hens anyway!! In addition I think the "Yanks" have a hand in holding the birds on the federal refuges and dumping loads of corn along with ice breakers to keep them out of Dixie! Ironically they quit feeding and breaking ice after our season ends.. Also, how does southern Indiana close their season on the same day we do? Ridiculous!! Sorry for the rant, just get tired of waiting all year for a week or two of someone elses scraps. Just let them migrate naturally!

best ducking hunting in MsIp is always in February. Not that I partake in that kinda rule breaking.

for exmaple you could kill a 4 greenheads (two banded), a mallard/black cross, and a mallard/gaddy cross and smash a hot blonde on the way back to the ramp and call it a hell of a day
