As of right now we only have two restaurants that will be able to serve it anyways. That's apple B's and el potrillas.

No strip clubs? I thought they would be building one tomorrow if it passes.

I will say that in my dealings with this issue, there has been one group take the high road and another do some things that we downright distastful. I hope it passes. I hope everyone respects my views as much as I take into consideration every other persons views. I have best friends that are voting with the same agenda as myself and I have some very close friends that are voting against it. In the end, we will still be friends and not hold it against one another. I will never judge any one of my friends for voting opposite as me and I know they would never do it either. That is why we are friends. Intelligent, thoughtful, and educated conversation is what gets things accomplished. Grandstanding, name calling, and telling someone they are wrong for thinking the way they do tells me all I need to know about someone.

So true. It's ashamed some people can't separate debate and friendship. I value a friend's opinion but in the same respect I want them to value mine and then have us a beverage over dinner !

Heard on the radio this morning some pastor down there swearing the alchohol related accidents will increase. Had the same type of
chatter in my county when we passed beer sales. No such statistics happened and that's been several years ago now. I understand
why the churches wouldn't want it, but please don't use false statements or create your own statistics out of thin air to voice your biblical
objections. Just voice your biblical objections and stand by them alone. They are enough.

In a free society people should have the option to choose to drink or not to drink. Drunk driving will not increase by passing this new thing.
The drunk drivers would have been there no matter what. Your city/county would have just missed out on the tax dollars from their liquer purchase
is the only difference.

Mayor Gary Rhodes of Flowood has stated numerous times that since its passing, alcohol related accidents and tickets have dropped. That is a 100% pure numbers statistic. Why, I have no idea, it just has.

One theory on this is that people have a shorter drive home so there are less opportunities for problems. I don't know that it's true, but I've seen it thrown out there.

A drop in alcohol related crimes/accidents after one of these referendums is passed has happened several times. I can't recall reading any statistics showing an increase.

In all honesty when you go to a restaurant how many people are sitting around the bar not many most of them are there to eat. Most folks are not voting yes bc they drink its bc they want nice restaurants for there family to eat in.

So roughly 3 to 2 in favor or 60% of the voters for it. If it holds ball is in the city's court to use this to their advantage and improvement of Brandon.

I hope i have to eat these words....

1.) the price of land in the county just went up because there will be a lot of folks getting away from they voted in in a few years "if" this "growth" comes.

2.) a couple new restaurants might show up, it'll be nothing more than a chain restaurant but they won't come in mass without the population here to fill the seats and regardless of what y'all think, folks from Madison, flowood, pearl ain't coming to eat in brandon to eat at the same chain restaurant they have there..I guess we'll get some folks stop from the interstate travel. Heck we might get another gas station!! Maybe a truck stop!!LOL

3.) bottom line is this... the city went broke with past leadership..under the current leadership, which is from the same era as the old, the extra tax dollars will be recklessly spent/stolen just like they do with their current income and never noticed...

Like I said I hope I have to eat these words. I hope this is their fix to all their problems. In my eyes, a small city can't spend like a big city and survive.. And.. When you've busted your bank account, found money missing, etc its better to stop and cut out the BS spending and hold someone accountable for the missing money instead of sweeping it under the rug instead of hoping for liquor sales to bail you out.. But I'm just a conservative living in a ever growing liberal world.

But I will add, the margin blew my mind.

What really kills me about votes like these, is the Same people that jump up and down screaming about too much government involvment in their lives and too much government regulation and taking away their LIBERTY, are the same people that went to the ballot box and vote Against a free mans right to have a drink when or if they choose to. Just sligggghhhtly hipocritical don't you think? The whole time thumping their bibles about how these sinners are going to ruin their community with all these drunk drivers and hobos laying around. Give me a break. Fact is they can't show ONE statistic where crime or alcohol related accidents increased. Not ONE case. Amazing the amount of hipocricy coming from so called Christians. Jesus turned water into wine and he also drank wine. God doesn't hate liquor, he hates the sin of drunkeness and addiction. Someone that want's a glass of burbon with their steak isn't any more of a sinner than the guy that sits next to him on the church pew Sunday morning.

The saddest part of it all is this is the only thing that gets people out and to vote. There were more people turn out for this vote than the last Presidential election as well as the last Mayorial election or any other election that I know about.
