Re: Bucks dropping antlers now??
Yes we try to shoot as many as we can before Christmas. And only shoot 4 1/2 year old bucks or older. 10 days ago we took a picture of 26 deer in a plot. That group consisted of 25 does and one buck. for us, the "dont kill does after Christmas" plan doesn't cover our needs. We can certainly spare ...

Bucks dropping antlers now??
We have had some strange activity lately... Been finding sheds over the last 2 weeks... Not that odd, but still makes you say "hmm"... Then on Friday, one hunter sees a buck with one antler... again, not that strange, "I guess hes been fighting". But then, for the grand finale, on Saturday, a hunter ...

Dixie Precision 450 yard doe kill in High Def video
This is a video of Blake Ward and his 5 year-old son Conner on a whitetail deer hunt at South Delta Hunting Club in Onward, MS on 11-22-10. This shot was taken on the largest doe in the far right corner of the frame. The deer was taken with a neck shot at 450 yards with a Dixie Precision 7mm WSM and ...

Re: Deer Taken at 1325 Yards story and link
Exactly... You reduce barrel life as you go UP in powder charge/velocity and/or DOWN in the diameter (caliber) of the bullet.
Barrel Life Example:
6.5x.284 is good for approximately 500 rounds
.308 is good for approximately 5000

Antelope at 525 and 480 yards and Mule Deer at 200 yards
Here are David Guimbellot, Nick Nichols and Blake Ward walking up to retrieve a Wyoming Pronghorn killed with one shot at 525 yards with a Dixie Precision .270 WSM in the fall of 2009. The wind was 10mph from the direction of 100 degrees. There were approximately 100 Antelope in the field and they ...

Re: Deer Taken at 1325 Yards story and link
The video has been re-posted in High-Definition
It took me awhile to figure out how to upload HD but now you can see the deer much better.
Here's what to do:
When the video comes up, click "Fullscreen" on the bottom right. THEN, click that number 360 you see on the bottom right also. Change that ...

Re: Deer Taken at 1325 Yards story and link
Nutjob, huh?? Hey... I resemble that remark
Good guess on the platform height; it 9'6"
Regarding the post concerning the Remington xcr:
That certainly is a nice rifle. Especially with that anti-corrosion coating. That is a BIG cartridge! Lots of recoil which generally decreases acurracy. Also ...

Re: Deer Taken at 1325 Yards story and link
I agree... Again, I beat all of these equipment debates to death and finally had to settle on something. Keep in mind that when building a custom rifle you first have to start with an action. When it all boils down to it you have 2 reasonable choices: Remington Model 700 and Savage. Both companies ...

Re: Deer Taken at 1325 Yards story and link
Yes I've been around a while. I read a lot more than I post
Hey Bulger! Havent seen ya in a while. Hope all is well.
Regarding the post about STW's:
We recently worked up a load for a 7mm STW Sendero. The ballistics are similar to the 7WSM but the WSM is flatter, has less recoil and is more ...

Re: Deer Taken at 1325 Yards story and link
Thanks for your responses. I apologize for the wordiness of the post although I felt the details were necessary. I tried several rangefinders in the $300-$500 range and was woefully unimpressed with their performance. It was REALLY hard for me to cough up the dough for the Swarovski but it is the ...
